We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Ornelas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobby, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want to be remembered as funny, humble, goal oriented, and a hard worker. I served 10 years in the Marine Corps, received a Master Degree in Business Management, and currently work for the Federal Aviation Administration. I have a total of 25 years combined of federal and military service. I strive to make my family proud and build the last name “Ornelas” for us. Although people say I’m a grumpy old man, I’m always there when someone needs me. I want people to remember the real me and not someone I’m not. Everything I’ve done in my life has been to set standards for my kids, nieces, and nephews to demonstrate that anything is possible with hard work and sacrifice. Nothing is ever given to us, it’s all earned!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At BS Stitching Studio LLC, we do embroidery and Direct to Garment (DTG) printing. Initially, we started with the intent to start a hobby. In June 2023, we decided to go legit and start a business. Originally, I wanted to call it “Bitch’n Stitch’n,” but I wasn’t allowed to register the business name. So, I kept the “BS” part as a funny story to tell and also a running joke that it stands for “Bull Shit!” But lucky for us, this just happens to be our initials. So, I guess it was meant to be for us! We started this business in a thirty-three foot travel trailer. We had no clue what we were getting ourselves into or how to operate an embroidery machine. There was no formal training in this industry, so we attended YouTube University and learned as much as we could from videos. We joined some Facebook groups and asked a lot of questions. We were blessed and found “Chola” an amazing Service Tech and she shared tips and tricks on our machines. Now Sandy, shares her experience and knowledge with others on Facebook groups and pays it forward.
What sets us apart? Well, we are humble and here to provide a customization service. Although we are in business to make money, we aren’t going to take customers to the cleaners and get rich overnight. We have learned from Facebook groups, some people/businesses charge too many additional fees such as: setup fee, hooping fee, unwrapping/rewrapping fee, and trash disposal fee. We don’t do all that! We want to build long term relationships with our customers and a list of loyal clientele.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we had a friend visiting us, they better be on a motorcycle! Our favorite thing to do is to ride our Harleys on the back country roads hitting small towns and eating at hole in the wall places. I like using an app called “Roadside America” and seeing what’s on there within our route to our destination. When we aren’t riding, we jump around venue to venue all over the DFW metro area. However, a lot of venues aren’t motorcycle club friendly! Three of my favorite spots are: Truck Yard in The Colony, Strokers in Dallas, and The Shop in Waxahachie.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a lot of shoutouts to some amazing folks in my life. First of all, Thank you to the man upstairs for my mind, body, and soul. Second to my family, my beautiful Mother (Carol), for her love and support. Also for making me the person I am today! To my amazing girlfriend (Sandy) for always being my ride or die partner in crime since day one! Our journey in starting this business and our life has only begun. To my kids (Larissa, Elaiyna, Bobby Jr., Christian), Brother (Alex), and Sister-in-Law (Julie) for always encouraging me and pushing me to find my happiness and always being there for me when I needed them. Huge shoutout to Mi Raza MC and all my brothers (MRFFMR), especially my brother Negro for always being a mentor, helping us, and believing in us! Also to all our close friends: Emanuel & Darlyn, Emanuel, Freddy & Mario, Johnathan & Sandra, Ruben & Mirella, and Mike & Brandy! I could go on and on listing so many great people in my life, so thank you to all my family and friends that have supported us and showed us love since we have started our business. Much Love & Respect!
