We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobbie Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobbie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My love for interior design was ignited early on, thanks to my mother. We restored our Victorian home in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco, and that experience lit a fire in me. I was fascinated by the process—remodeling, designing, decorating. My dad was an artist, so I like to say I inherited creativity from both sides. Growing up in San Francisco, I was constantly surrounded by beautiful design and rich architecture, which deeply influenced my eye and aesthetic.

My mother always encouraged me to start my own business, but like many creatives, I waited for the ‘right moment.’ During the pandemic, I realized that moment was now. I took the plunge and began designing a home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and to my surprise and gratitude, that project was picked up by HGTV. That momentum confirmed that I was exactly where I needed to be. Grant Sullivan Interiors was born out of love, legacy, and a desire to create meaningful, beautiful spaces for others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today professionally has been a journey filled with passion, purpose, and perseverance. It definitely wasn’t easy—but it was worth every step.

Building Grant Sullivan Interiors came with its share of challenges, especially stepping into the design world as a business owner during a pandemic. There were moments of doubt, financial uncertainty, and having to prove myself in a saturated industry. But I leaned into my faith, my creativity, and the values my parents instilled in me. I kept showing up, project after project, even when things felt overwhelming. I’ve learned that consistency, authenticity, and the willingness to evolve are key to long-term success.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that your story is your strength. My upbringing in San Francisco, surrounded by eclectic design, strong family influence, and creative energy, shaped my perspective and passion. I bring that into every space I design. I’ve also learned that relationships matter—whether it’s with clients, vendors, or fellow creatives, building trust and connection has opened so many doors for me.

What I want the world to know about me and Grant Sullivan Interiors is that this brand is built from the heart. It’s rooted in legacy, creativity, and a true love for helping others bring their vision to life. I don’t just design homes—I tell stories through spaces. Every detail matters because every client matters. My goal is to make people feel seen, heard, and inspired through the environments we create together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’m not designing beautiful spaces, I love immersing myself in equally inspiring environments around Dallas-Fort Worth. Whether it’s for design inspiration, delicious food, or a little recharge, here’s how I would spend the perfect day:

☕ Morning Start – Coffee & Calm at La La Land Kind Café
I love starting my day with something light and bright, and La La Land Kind Café is the perfect vibe. The message, the aesthetic, and of course the lavender latte—it’s a designer’s dream and a peaceful way to set the tone.

🍽️ Brunch at Sixty Vines – Uptown Dallas
The atmosphere is always buzzing, and the fresh, seasonal menu paired with their wine-on-tap concept feels like California meets Texas. I often find myself admiring their table settings and lighting—it’s inspiration in every corner.

🎨 Culture Stop – Dallas Contemporary or Kimbell Art Museum (Fort Worth)
Art fuels design. I love stopping by Dallas Contemporary for bold and unexpected pieces, or heading to Fort Worth to visit the Kimbell Art Museum—the architecture alone is worth the trip.

🍸 Happy Hour – The Thompson Hotel Rooftop or Catbird
Nothing says ‘pause and enjoy’ like a cocktail with a view. Catbird at the Thompson Hotel is where luxe interiors meet skyline views. It’s where I go to unwind, mingle, and soak in the energy of downtown Dallas.

🌆 Upscale Dinner – Catch Dallas (Victory Park)
For a dinner that feels like a full sensory experience, Catch Dallas is one of my go-to spots. Located in the heart of Victory Park, this upscale seafood and steakhouse offers more than just incredible cuisine—it’s a vibe. The moment you walk through the floral tunnel entrance, you’re transported into a world of modern glamour and high-end design.

🛋️ Wind Down – Home with a Candle, Jazz & a Good Book
To end the night, I’m lighting a candle, turning on some Coltrane, and curling up with a design book or flipping through fabric samples for my next big project.

People & Places That Inspire Me:

Shauntae Benton of Luxe Lifestylist – Creative energy and vision for storytelling through branding.

Design community in the DFW Black Interior Designers Network – Talented, bold, and redefining the design space.

Local artisans and vendors in Bishop Arts & the Dallas Farmers Market – For handcrafted, one-of-a-kind finds.

The DFW area is filled with beauty, inspiration, and creativity. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or a longtime local, there’s always something fresh to experience—and as a designer, that’s exactly what keeps me inspired.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When reflecting on my journey and the support that has helped shape me professionally, there are a few key names and communities I want to dedicate my heartfelt shoutout to.

First and foremost, Shauntae Benton of Luxe Lifestylist. Her belief in my brand and her unwavering support in guiding the visibility and storytelling behind Grant Sullivan Interiors has been instrumental. Luxe Lifestylist didn’t just amplify my voice—it helped me refine and elevate it. Shauntae has a gift for seeing the potential in others and creating platforms for us to shine authentically. I’m beyond grateful for her influence and collaboration.

I also want to recognize the DFW Black Interior Designers Network—a collective of incredible talent, creativity, and community. Being part of a group that uplifts and champions Black voices in the design industry has been empowering. The encouragement, resources, and sisterhood within this network are unmatched, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

Lastly, a sincere thank you to the Interior Design Society (IDS). As a designer who values ongoing growth and excellence, IDS has provided access to continued education, industry connections, and a standard of professionalism that inspires me daily.

These individuals and organizations have not only supported me—they’ve poured into my purpose. This journey is never walked alone, and I’m proud to walk it with these remarkable allies by my side.
