We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Spurlock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bob, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind our success as a business and brand are the fact that we don’t cut corners and we try to do the right things. By that I mean we continually strive to use only the best materials in the production of our products. We only work with the most respected manufacturing partners and individuals. We also know we don’t have the answers for everything that may come our way. But we do know where and who to go to to find the right answers. Partnering with trusted individuals and businesses are incredibly important to us.
Another reason that we feel contributes to the success of our brand is we like to have FUN! AND WE DO HAVE FUN! If you have met us at any of the festivals, shows or on our travels, you know what we are talking about. One way we do that is to live life, breathe, laugh, always trying to make someones day brighter and leave a positive impression on everyone we meet. When an individual or business purchase any of our products they become part of the Cerveza Bros family. So much so that they created our own Cerveza Bros Nation! Traveling around the world we always meet someone that makes us smile when they ask “Who are the Cerveza Bros?” as they see us in our caps, t-shirts, koozies and other swag. It doesn’t take long for them to find out.
Who are we? The Cerveza Bros are a couple of guy’s that like to live life to the fullest, challenge themselves and push their own internal and personal limits. Respectful of others but always letting everyone know they can come along for the ride.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been self-employed for 21 years. My first business was starting my merger and acquisitions consulting firm, The Spurlock Group, in 2000 after spending 15 years as a consultant in the corporate world. Creating a new business with no guidance and going out on your own can be quite a daunting task. No guaranteed paycheck, no guaranteed clients but a faith that you can do it. I am very glad that I did.
Another organization that is close to my heart is The Mascoutah Alumni and Friends Scholarship which I founded with some of my dearest friends from Illinois in 2009. The purpose of this organization is to raise funds through our charity golf event to award scholarships that will offset some of the costs associated with furthering your eduction, trade school or assisting you in a career in the United States Military. The recipients are graduating seniors of Mascoutah High School in Mascoutah, IL. The place were I graduated high school.
Which brings us to the Cerveza Bros! My lifestyle brand that was really established in 2016. This is my creative outlet and the business venture that allows me to connect all types of people. The world can be a small place and the places that the Cerveza Bros have been, the people and businesses owners we meet are what makes it all worth while.
I believe what sets us apart from most others is our true belief in treating everyone as we would like to be treated. I know it sounds cliche’ but it is true. We strive to do the right things, go the extra mile and give a little bit extra when you become part of the Cerveza Bros family. We are incredibly proud of the quality of our product lines and the thought process that goes into each and every item we bring out to market. We source our materials, manufacturing partners and genuinely like the individuals we work with. It is something that shows when you see the finished item.
My friends and people that I meet always say “Bobby, you are living the dream!” I kinda of laugh and say “I am living a dream, not sure if it is THE dream!” LOL. But seriously, I am very fortunate to be able to do the things that I can do. Has the Cerveza Bros been easy? Absolutely not. Has it been a blast! Absolutely! Starting a business in an industry that I had no real knowledge was a great challenge with a tremendous learning curve. We are still learning each and every day. That is one of the cool parts. Your mind is always thinking about new things, ideas and anything can provide that inspiration.
I believe that overcoming challenges can lead to the greatest rewards. The rewards can be more than financial. The satisfaction of doing something right, making a person smile, the sense of accomplishment. I believe that partnering with the right individuals and businesses who share the same mindset as the Cerveza Bros has helped us learn, understand and become who we are today. One of the most valuable lessons I learned early on with my other business, The Spurlock Group, is that if I don’t know the answer, I will reach out to someone who does. I apply that same reason with the Cerveza Bros. If we are asked something that we do not know the answer, we will find the individual or business that does.
There are many things that we are proud of with the Cerveza Bros. We are very adamant about the quality and design of each and every item we take to market. We stand 100% behind everything we make. We are incredibly blessed to have met so many amazing people and business owners all over the world. That is the true gift of this business. Our Cerveza Bros family continues to grow every day and we are so humbled that they bring us with them on their travels. We truly mean this with every fiber of our being, when you purchase from the Cerveza Bros, you are part of the Cerveza Bros family! We can not begin to thank you enough for your support, encouragement and trust in us and our lifestyle brand. We want to make you proud! We know our story is just beginning and we look forward to the journey’s ahead. Our hope and wish is for you to be part of this crazy experience, the journey and see what makes life so much fun to be part of.
As we like to say “The Cerveza Bros are a couple of guy’s that like to live life to the fullest, challenge themselves and push their own internal and personal limits. Respectful of others but always letting everyone know they can come along for the ride.” Come join us for the ride!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
WOW! Living in a major city and metroplex there are so many places to do try and visit. I am not sure you can ever get to them all. With that being said, if my best friend was visiting here are a few must “do’s” while they are here.
Certainly Dallas/Fort Worth is known for it’s culinary experiences, the arts, Texas history and sports. Here is a brief list (but certainly not the complete list) of my favorite places that are always on my go to list.
Restaurants:
Via Real in Irving/Las Colinas, TX. This is my favorite place in DFW. From the owner, Fran, managers, Michael and Jimmie, the bartender, Edgar, and the amazing chef, Jesus and the rest of the staff, they all go above and beyond to make you feel special every time you go there. Friendly, welcoming, professional they are are simply the best. The ambiance and food are second to none. Their sea bass is the best in the world! Seriously! But do try the rest of the menu too!
For Tex-Mex it would be Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth. They have a cool vibe and the best patio in DFW. We are lucky to have amazing BBQ here and a stop at Pecan Lodge in Dallas and Hutchins BBQ in Mckinney will take you to BBQ heaven.
The arts are big in the area so you have to check out the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Art in Downtown Dallas and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. Depending on the time of year you can spend a very neat day at the Dallas Arboretum. And of course, you have to check out The Six Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza for the remembrance of John F. Kennedy.
The are so many eclectic places to visit in Dallas. I would definitely take anyone visiting to the Bishop Arts District in Dallas which is a mixture of great boutiques such as Indigo 1745, restaurants and bars and a stop to check out Revelers Hall and its live music. If feels like little touch of New Orleans in Bishop Arts District!
The craft beer scene is big in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. You literally could do a craft beer trail and spend several days trying them all out. The craft distilling business is bustling as well. All doing good things.
Depending on the time of year, there are so many cool outdoor festivals that are sprinkled throughout the area. A few that are a must see are the Cottonwood Arts Festival in Richardson, Main Street Art Festival in Fort Worth, the Grapefest in Grapevine, the Day of the Dead races in Denton and the Best Little Brewfest in Texas in Lewisville. There are so many others and all are worth checking out.
If you love sports then you need to check out a Dallas Cowboys game at Cowboy Stadium (The house the Jerry built) and the Texas Rangers in the beautiful new Globe Life Park. My personal preference is to attend a game in Frisco to see the Double AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers, The Frisco Rough Riders. It is one of the most beautiful minor league baseball parks in the country and there is not a bad seat in the house. There is nothing like Texas High School football. The true and original Friday Night Lights! Going to a Texas high school football game is something that words do not do justice. From small towns to 25,000 seat stadiums, there is nothing like Texas football. Something that should be on everyones bucket list is to attend a Texas – Oklahoma football game at the legendary Cotton bowl. The Red River rivalry is like nothing you have experienced. The game is played during the State Fair of Texas which only adds the the incredible atmosphere.
No stop in Texas would be complete without a listen to Texas Country Music or Red Dirt Music. There is a big difference between Texas Country Music and Nashville Country Music. Texas Country Music tells a story, you can feel the pride and passion. There are several places to see some of the Lone Star States favorites and this includes the world famous Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth and Love and War in Texas in Plano and Hank’s in McKinney. If you get a chance you have to check out Casey Donahew who has a love for Texas (The Lone Star State, God and Guns in his music), Jack Ingram, William Clark Green, Roger Creager and so many others. If you are willing to drive a few hours out of town, take a trip to Gruene Hall (Texas oldest dancehall) in Gruene, TX. You have to float down the Guadalupe and Comal river in your inter tube during the Summer! Well worth the trip!
There are so many things to do and I am sure I am missing and overlooking someone or something. For that I apologize but you said it was only a week!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Let jump right in then! The Cerveza Bros has been a labor of love so to speak. What started out as what I thought was a cool name morphed into an idea, then a product, two products and now a true lifestyle brand! How cool is that!
There are several people that I would love to recognize who have had an impact and an incredible belief in the Cerveza Bros and what we do. The main person who has listened, helped with design and the look is Becky McGowan. Becky is truly one of a kind. A beautiful person inside and out. She has literally seen every design and added to everything we have done. Her attitude and feedback always take the final ideas to a little higher level. I can not thank her enough for her support and friendship.
Another group of individuals who help bring the Cerveza Bros to life are my amazing manufacturing partners. They help in so many ways to let me know the best ways to do things and how to always makes us look good. A BIG Thank You to people past and present, Kelly, Chelsey, Tiffany and Shelby who have helped and continued to be part of our creative process.
We appreciates our incredible business relationships with boutiques around the world who carry the Cerveza Bros lifestyle and brand. A big THANK YOU to Denise and Keith Manoy of Indigo 1745 in Dallas, TX who were the very first boutique to take a chance on us when we started out! From Pano in Vail, CO to Blue Moon Resort Wear on Paradise Island, Bahamas and Island Fancy and the Pink Papaya on St. John, USVI and others, they all have had an impact and influence on what we do and who we are.
Lastly, there are several people who are part of the Cerveza Bros family that we want to mention. They have been some of the most passionate and dedicated individuals who live the Cerveza Bros lifestyle to the fullest. We are so lucky to have Karen Attayek, Sheryl Edmonds and Kevin “Moon Dog” Jackson and so many others that support, wear and bring us along on their journeys. You are what continue to inspire us! They were the beginning of the Cerveza Bros Nation movement.

Other: OUR STORY: Who are these guys? The Cerveza Bros are a couple of guy’s that like to live life to the fullest, challenge themselves and push their own internal and personal limits. Respectful of others but always letting everyone know they can come along for the ride. How old are they? As old as they need to be…As young as they want to be. Where are they from? Great question. No one really knows where the Cerveza Bros are from. They are most likely from the Southwest US, Probably Texas, Arizona or possibly even Mexico. Are they really brothers? Another great question. Legend has it that they are related somehow. The story is that they connected in a way that only the closest of brothers or friends can be. What do they do for fun? The Cerveza Bros don’t look for the party or fun……the party or fun looks for them! The men, the myth, the legend continues…
