We had the good fortune of connecting with Bita Motiie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bita, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I believe during my time working in social media and as a community builder, I’ve learned that showing up. Half the time others don’t go the extra mile, better yet they don’t even take the 1st step.

I started by taking the 1st step in introducing myself whenever I met a really cool speaker or professor I enjoyed. Being able to go up and introduce myself to people helped me gain my 1st layer of confidence. After that I was able to take that baby step and turn it into a leap, by asking questions, getting to know people, and then later on even asking about positions, I would like to have and even discussing the pay I would like to receive.

If I didn’t know something I would take the 1st step in educating myself before I dismissed it. Even that landed me a position as one of the country’s TikTok Brand Ambassadors. I even took the 1st step in trying to be a leader, by just running for office in my universities Marketing organization, which I ended up winning.

I think many people need to stop worrying about how and what they should do. At this point, you can’t know what your future will look like but you can learn how to move forward. If I see an opportunity for a connection I take it 1 step at a time and see how far I can go. I’ve allowed myself a lot of great experiences because I was willing to try and take that 1st step forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think a lot of my struggles with my work have been based on a lack of consistency and discipline. Being able to accept that and change how I view my work and passions has helped me overcome that. Once I was able to let go of other distractions and allow myself to learn how to enjoy the process of doing things. I was finally able to find success and joy in doing something.

Whenever I create content for a company or help build a community around a brand, I learn to enjoy the process of creating and sharing a story. But these stories don’t have an ending because they continue to grow in the communities I build. As more people join the community the brand becomes stronger and the message spreads faster because others become a part of it.

Building communities has allowed me to not only express myself but to learn more about how others want to be involved. Collaborating to share stories and ideas only allowed for a better understanding of consumer needs and how some changes can positively affect a business’s growth.

Understanding community building at its core is understanding people, I think by being honest with yourself and having that willingness to be open with others is what makes for a good community builder.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any fun weekend getaway always has to start off with a successful brunch, one of my favorite spots in town is The Rustic, For me, everything tastes better when you get to sit around with friends drinking mimosas and eating a bunch of food. (It’s even better when it’s a good deal! )

If it’s the summer you can find me at the FOE pool in Dallas with some friends, relaxing under the sun and day drinking. I do love a nice nap under the sun and then it’s off to prep for a night out. I enjoy bar hopping in Deep Ellum, or dancing the night away at It’ll Do.

After the bars close one of my favorite spots is El Paisanos on Harry Hines for some of the best Tacos in all of Dallas. (but make sure to bring some cash) All in all, I am pretty simple. I love to drink, dance, and be with friends under the sun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have 1 organization and 1 person I would like to shout out.

While in college I was a member of UNT’s American Marketing Association and later on became President(during COVID). This organization not only pushed me creatively, but due to being forced to continue virtually, I was able to find different ways to connect with students, provide opportunities and growth to my fellow members. If I wasn’t a part of UNT AMA I would never have become such a strong leader.

The person I would like to shout out:

Edison Chen, who after graduation gave me my 1st Full-Time Job. He is a Serial Entrepreneur, who showed me the real world of tech, business, and venture capital. He provided me full freedom in my role to execute and allowed me to grow an amazingly strong team. I see him as a mentor and someone that I continue to learn from.
