We had the good fortune of connecting with Bishop Dr. Shevoyd and Anjie Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bishop Dr. Shevoyd and Anjie, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
We have two adult children, ages 27 and 36. The most important thing with the most impact we have done for our children is to live a Godly life. We have been serving as pastor and wife of Straightway Christian Church for 24 years and we have shown them through our words and actions how to be loving, compassionate and generous. They understand what it means to sacrifice one’s self for others and how to serve others. They are well adjusted, self-sufficient adults who are ambitious, thoughtful, polite, giving and productive. As parents, you can’t ask for much for than that.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are the owners and publishers of The Metro Report, a diverse digital and print business publication with an emphasis on women and minorities in business. We are the only business publication in the DFW metroplex with this type of focus. We are excited to meet new people and be able to tell the success stories of these businesses and business leaders: how they got started, how they got to be successful and what advice they have for other potential entrepreneurs or c-level executives. We have been in business for 1 year and the Covid-19 pandemic has been the most challenging thing so far. We both came from a business publication background, so that made things easier. The most important lesson we have learned is to listen! Everyone has a story, our job is to pull the best parts from that story and convey them in a way that compels others to want to read about them. We want the world to know that women and minorities in business not just exist, but excel and make terrific contributions to the community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are both sports fans, so the area sports venues would definitely be on the list, Globe Life Park, American Arena, Lone Star Park and Cowboys stadium. We are also into the arts and music , so the local museums would be on our list as well as House of Blues in Dallas for great live music. When nature calls, a visit to the Dallas Arboretum or Fort Worth Botanical Gardens is in order. We are homebodies, so eating out is something special and our favorite places to dine are Bonnell’s, Capital Grille Fort Worth and Perrys Steakhouse.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our shoutout goes to several people. First, our parents, Hubert and LaVerne McQueen ( both deceased) and Dorothy Hines who instilled great work ethic in us and have been our biggest cheerleaders and advocates along the way. Second, Bishop Wilbert Dillon who has been our mentor and spiritual guide for many years who has both encouraged us and gently pointed out potential pitfalls. And, finally, our families who have worked tirelessly alongside us to help bring our visions to fruition. Family is extremely important to us and our success.
