We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Sovereign and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans. I waited until my kids were of school age to start my business, but a surprise baby a couple of years later made other plans for my work life balance. The balance becomes that you choose what you want in your life, minute to moment, those are the puzzle pieces of your life. We have to choose where and how we spend our days and hours, because life has unlimited opportunities and finite moments.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My company name, Grateful, is a part of my focus. I remind myself to be grateful for the opportunities that I am invited to be a part of. The world is full of choices and opportunities to bold, courageous, encouraging, or distracting. Taking a breath before acting allows us to choose our focus. My team of designers are artists by choice and pleasure. We enjoy our craft and being a part of couples’ Happily Ever After.
This company was formed after a career wave. I worked in the corporate world, and enjoyed, in addition to my job tasks, the opportunity to plan our company holiday events. When I moved on from that company, I considered what I was most excited to perform. I was our philanthropy chairperson and event planner, which was a part of the friendship and comradery that helped the team work better together by building relationships by making names of co-workers in to real people. That piece of being a positive gear in the machine of the world is what drives me to choose my path.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in the city is my house with those special to me! As a special needs mom, I don’t get to pop out around the metroplex much. In the rare chance that I get to say Yes Let’s Go There, I love the Dallas World Aquarium, Fort Worth Zoo, and downtown Fort Worth Stockyards. In any small or big place, if you take a moment to actively observe others, you will meet some amazing humans and can hear their stories if you ask.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Fellow florists and artists are my encouragement for being a part of the design community. While usually people in the same line of business are competitive, I have found a vast level of sharing, information, and support. We say I see you, I can help you, I want you to succeed. The love is propelling.
