We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin McDonnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benjamin, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Don’t let someone who gave up on their dream talk you out of yours”. I feel like so many people are quick to judge and tell someone what they CAN’T do. I have always had big dreams and went for them. Most of the time being successful even when the odds were stacked against me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a professional actor for the last 15 years appearing in movies, TV shows and national commercials, which means I need new headshots every year. Along with spending time in front of the camera, I have enjoyed being behind it as well. From shooting an award winning documentary and owning my own photography business. the camera has been a long time friend.

Soon after moving to Texas, I realized there was a need for real, unique and eye-catching headshots. I love capturing peoples essence. I want their eyes to pop and immediately show personality through their photos. Anyone can be a photographer, especially with the technology of cell phones these days. So it can be a competitive industry for sure, but I think with anything the work speaks for itself. I have my own studio where I work with actors, models, business professionals, real estate agents and families. I love connecting with people and making them feel like a star. There is nothing more rewarding than watching someone look at their own photos and watch them light up with excitement and feel special. That’s why I do this.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think we would for sure have to go to the Fort Worth Stockyards because its a one-of-a-kind place and feels like “Texas!” We would go to the rodeo and then have a cocktail at The Hotel Drover and see where they night takes us. Another day, we’d go to Velvet Taco and then head to the Dallas aquarium and hit up The Henry, which also has a location in Los Angeles. Another day we’d spend in the Granbury area and go to a barrel race and obviously swing by my studio for a photo shoot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fiance’ has always pushed me to work harder, dream bigger and do things outside of my comfort zone. I often get tunnel vision on what I want to do and how I want it to look, but thanks to my fiance’ I have been able to think outside the box and make things work even if its not the exact path I have envisioned.
