We had the good fortune of connecting with Belén Ruiz Cavazos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Belén, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I am currently training to be a profesional ballerina, I fell in love with ballet at the age of three years old. And by eleven I knew I wanted to do this for living. The thing that most motivates me is that there are very few Mexican ballet dancers around the world but there is a lot of Mexican talent. And I would love to put the name of my country high in the ballet world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a ballet student soon to be a profesional ballerina. I have won several competitions in my country and last year I was the only Mexican woman in my category at Youth America Grand Prix Finals which is a very big international ballet competition. It has definitely been a challenge, specially the two whole years of quarantine that we had in Mexico, I had to kept myself in shape for ballet in my room, and once quarantine was over the hard part was to get back to stage and catch the breath but it was so lovely to step on stage again. Injuries are a big part of a ballerina life that you must overcome very intelligently if you want to keep dancing. But you must be very smart, work hard and most important stay positive. I have received several scholarships from ballet schools around the world and I received a 100% scholarship for The Royal Ballet School in London last year. I would love the world to know my story because I want to inspire people to achieve what ever they want to do in life no matter your nationality, height or how much hard it looks. And it will always be a rocky road but that’s what makes you stronger. And always smile through the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Mexico so much, it is full of color, nature and lovely people. I absolutely adore the big mountains of my city, Monterrey, Nuevo León. It’s the most beautiful thing ever, the nature the animals is just so lovely and unique. I adore the food, all the types of eggs that we prepare here, the tacos, chilaquiles, sopes all the food is amazing!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate and thank my parents for always supporting me in my dreams no matter what and letting me do for living what I love most!
