We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Burris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I found Mazie on the street in 2024 about to get hit by multiple collars. She jumped right in my car and we never looked back.

After unsuccessfully finding a collar that I thought fit her personality, I learned how to make beaded dog collars. She received so many compliments when we were in public, and many friends of mine told me I should go for it! I wanted to make cute collars for my dog… but because of said compliments and support from family and friends, Bark and Bauble was born.

In addition, I’m a huge lover of bully breeds. We all know how bad of a reputation they can get so whatever I can do to help them shine is my ultimate goal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My story starts with Mazie and me just wanting to make cute collars for my dog. In no way did I anticipate on starting a business. However, this little hobby of mine had other plans. I really just like making them, but the sell is what keeps it going. It’s true what they say, if you love what you do, you will never feel like you are working.

Nothing about starting a business is easy. In fact, I am still learning. Some days I feel like I have no idea what I am doing. Social Media has been such a game changer, especially when I never was a predominant figure on social media or a social influencer. But what I have learned along the way is to put myself out there. More than I ever have. Ask the questions, look for ambassadors. You never know who is willing to help if you don’t ask. There is an entire community willing to help.

One thing that I think sets me apart is most other beaded dog collar companies start with a slip-on option and you can buy a clasp for an additional amount. I wanted to start with the clasp because I feel that if you are ever on a walk with your dog and your dog gets startled, the last thing you want is your dog to become loose and run off. My WORST nightmare.

I recently had a dog boutique reach out wanting to sell my products in her store. I’m extremely excited to get my products in stores and be able to see my collars on pups all across the nation…or even the world! I’ve currently sold to 21 states in the US and can’t wait for the day to be able to check off every state on my map.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas is a great place if you have never been!

30 minutes north of Dallas is Frisco which is booming! The Star which is known for where the Dallas Cowboys practice has a strip of bars and restaurants. Dee Lincoln is my go to steak house. Snowbird Cocktail Lounge for drinks after.

Deep Ellum has had its fair share of turnovers, however, it’s the best it’s been for some time now. If you’re ever in the area, Three Links, Scarlet Lounge, and Double Wide are great in their own way. You also have The Bomb Factory which is a great music venue to check out a show.

Can’t forget the State Fair in October. It’s an absolute must and is where the UT v. OU game is held every year at the Cotton Bowl.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Starting a business is no simple task. While friends and family rooted for me from the beginning, I have to say that the Instagram community of dog businesses alike are what have kept me going. We are all so very supportive of one another.

When I first started, I came across a Instagram page, @The_Brass_Spaniel, who is owned by a girl named Alyssa from Iowa. I messaged her randomly asking some questions and a friendship formed almost immediately. Alyssa was the first person outside of people I knew who bought one of my collars and blasted it on social media. She is also the very reason I went international. She has also provided me with some social media pages where people sell their products. In addition, we are constantly bouncing ideas off each other, getting feedback on items we are looking to add to our collection, and have even done a raffle together.

If you haven’t checked her out, please do! You will NOT be disappointed.
