We had the good fortune of connecting with Beau Raines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beau, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The classic statement, “consistency is key,” is the most important lesson I come across time and time again when conducting my own business. As growth is one of the most fundamental aspects of developing a business, consistency is what drives that margin forward. Whether your business is administrative or based in a talent or skill, consistency is what specializes your skill set. Without consistency you are left with a hobby, and there is nothing wrong with your skill being a profitable hobby in your life, but if you intend on relying on your hobby as a business, then consistency is the carrier that delivers you to success, growing opportunities, and self-sufficiency.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my work apart from the work of others are all of the little habits that I have developed over the years. I follow many popular genres, urban exploring, graffiti, portraiture, but I establish myself in these areas with small ways of execution that differ from anyone else. We all pretty much pull from the same pool of techniques, but even if two artists use the same two techniques, the outcome often, if not always, still turns out differently. I also lean heavily into my strengths. Although I am always trying to push myself into discomfort to grow and develop more style, I do know what my strengths are and I highlight those with my work; Very casual aesthetics, lots of texture and details, a polished final presentation, and generally rich but muted color tones. Whether it’s in my paintings and artwork, or my photography and video work, the aesthetic is something I find consistent with all of my work as all I do as a creative is an outlet and expression of my own self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any friends that come visit Dallas, I tell ’em, Bangkok City on Bryan street is definitely a must for dinner and either Celestial Beerworks or Trinity Cider for drinks. Most of a day with me exploring the DFW area would be abandoned locations which are private, but the Fabrication Yard is always a fun place to get creative and check out a street gallery of some amazing local talent.
