We had the good fortune of connecting with Beatrice Gallegos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beatrice, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At the heart of what I do is compassion and preparation. As an advanced funeral planning specialist and life insurance agent, my goal—and the goal of my team—is to help families prepare for some of the hardest moments in life, so that when the time comes, they can grieve with peace instead of stress.

When I first started in this business, even some of my own family members were hesitant to talk to me about my work. The topic of death was hard—it still is—as we had lost many loved ones over the past 15 years. But eventually, I was able to have a conversation with my dad. He decided to put a plan in place—not just for his funeral, but also setting aside money for his suit and for food to feed family and friends when the time came. What he said has stayed with me ever since: “I don’t want you, your siblings, or the family worrying about money. I want you to focus on remembering me.”

When my mom passed away 10 years before him, none of us were prepared. The grief was—and still is—very heavy. My dad didn’t want that same weight to fall on us again. He wanted us to be able to grieve without being overwhelmed by decisions or expenses. And because of the plan he put in place, we were able to honor him, support each other, and truly feel his love—even in his absence.

That’s why I do what I do. I share this story with my clients because I want them to know: planning ahead isn’t about expecting the worst, it’s about protecting the people you love the most. Through this work, my team and I help families all across the DFW area find peace of mind, protect their legacies, and show love in one of the most selfless ways possible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work is really rooted in love, family, and making sure people feel taken care of—especially during some of the hardest times in life. I’m an advanced funeral planning specialist and life insurance agent, and I lead an amazing team of agents throughout Texas and the DFW area. We help families plan ahead for the unexpected so they can have peace of mind and focus on what really matters: honoring their loved ones and protecting their legacy.

What makes us different is the way we care. We don’t rush through these conversations. We take our time, we listen, and we meet people where they are. These aren’t just “clients” to me—they’re real people, with real fears, hopes, and stories. I’ve had coffee with clients just to check in, dropped off groceries or medications when they couldn’t get out, and helped connect them to local resources when they were going through tough times. If someone needs help beyond funeral planning or insurance, I do what I can. Because that’s what community means to me—being there for one another.

Getting to this point wasn’t a straight path. I’ve had several different careers, and every one of them taught me something that brought me to where I am now. When I first started in this industry, I honestly didn’t know if it would be a good fit. Talking about death isn’t easy. But once I saw how much relief and peace I could bring to families by simply helping them prepare, I knew this was more than just a job—it was a calling.

It definitely hasn’t always been easy. I had to start from scratch, build trust, and learn the business inside and out. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve had to grow through challenges. But what kept me going was knowing that the work I do truly matters. I get to be a small part of someone’s healing—and that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s that people just want to feel supported. They want to know they’re not alone. And that’s exactly what my team and I aim to give—real support, with heart.

What I hope people take away from my story is that it’s never too late to start over, to find your purpose, or to make a difference. My business is about more than policies and planning—it’s about showing up for people when they need it most. That’s what I’m most proud of, and it’s what keeps me going every single day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a close friend were visiting me here in the DFW area for a week, I’d want to give them a well-rounded experience — a little bit of culture, some great food, time outdoors, and of course, a few laughs along the way.

Day 1:
We’d start off at NorthPark Center — for some shopping, browsing, and maybe a movie. Then we’d head to Ojeda’s on Maple Avenue, one of my go-to Tex-Mex spots, for enchiladas and a margarita to kick things off right.

Day 2:
For day two, we’d explore the rich history and culture that downtown Dallas has to offer. We’d start at Dealey Plaza with a visit to the Sixth Floor Museum, followed by a stop at the Dallas Museum of Art. If they’re into science or natural history, we’d also make time for the Perot Museum. After a full day of sightseeing, we’d enjoy sunset views from the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, then head over to my childhood home — just down the street — for a homemade dinner and a nightcap at Trinity Groves.

Day 3:
To change the scenery, we’d spend the day in Fort Worth checking out the Stockyards. We’d catch the cattle drive, find some good BBQ, and wander through the shops. If there’s a live show that night, we’d make a night of it.

Day 4:
Now, it’s been a while since I’ve been, but if my friend’s game, I wouldn’t hesitate — we’d head to Six Flags Over Texas for the day. It may not be what it used to be, but it still has a fun energy and that nostalgic feel that makes it a DFW staple. Afterward, we could catch a Texas Rangers game before dinner at Prince Lebanese Grill or Abuelo’s, if we’re craving more Tex-Mex.

Day 5:
To slow things down, we’d enjoy a spa day in the Bishop Arts District. It’s the perfect place to walk around, explore boutiques, and pick up a few knick-knacks for loved ones. A day in Oak Cliff is always a day well spent.

Day 6:
For something a little different, I’d take my friend to Gen Korean BBQ House in Koreatown. It’s interactive, delicious, and always a fun experience. If we’re feeling brave, we might even sign up for a little karaoke nearby. If not, we’d treat ourselves to something sweet from 85°C Café or Somisomi.

Day 7:
On our final day, you’d find us at Cedar Hill State Park. It’s a beautiful place to relax and decompress away from the city noise. We’d have a cookout, take in the scenery, and spend time catching up and reminiscing about all the good times from the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had many careers over the years, and each one came into my life at just the right time, serving a purpose and teaching me something new. But if I’m being honest, none of it would’ve been possible without SER – Jobs for Progress.

SER is a program that was created to support Mexican-American individuals—people like me—who want more for themselves and their families. Through SER, I was able to earn my GED, and that moment changed the course of my life. It wasn’t just about getting a piece of paper—it was about finally believing that I could build something better, not just for myself, but for the generations coming after me.

I still remember how it felt to walk into that program. I was nervous, unsure of myself, and carrying a lot of doubt. But what I found was a group of people who saw potential in me and reminded me that I was capable, worthy, and not alone. They didn’t just give me resources—they gave me hope.

That experience became the foundation for everything I’ve done since then. It gave me the confidence to keep moving forward, to try new things, and to build a life and career rooted in service and purpose.

So this shoutout goes to SER – Jobs for Progress, for opening the door, for lighting that spark, and for believing in me when I needed it most. I carry that experience with me every single day, and I’m proud to be part of the story that proves programs like this truly change lives.
