We had the good fortune of connecting with Banu Bektas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Banu, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I didn’t actually pursue an artistic career. Artistry has been walking with me my whole life and I realized it. Life offers things that will be good for you, sometimes it does it secretly, we just need to open ourselves and feel it. This is often not the easy path and good things don’t happen overnight. We just have to realize and strive for the desire within us that walks with us.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hello, I am Banu, the founder of Holmworks, a design studio based in Istanbul/Türkiye. We make designs all over the world. I met you thanks to these designs and I am very happy about it. After completing my interior architecture education, I received training in art direction. Cinema decorations were one of the most important elements that attracted me to interior architecture. By synthesizing these two professions within myself, I worked in many cinema series and commercials. During this period, I experienced negative things that affected me greatly. With the lessons I learned from these adversities and my work experience, I established my brand in which I want to fully reflect myself.
That’s why we work with an independent, mutually supportive, creative team at holworks.
We learn together and apply together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If your best friend is with you, the best thing you can do is be open to new experiences. Long walks accompanied by long conversations and a good coffee.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I was little, it was my books and the movies I watched that made me feel the world and open my mind, not being content with myself. These were the things that taught me that I didn’t have to live in my own little world, and that my mind could be wherever it wanted to be. That’s why I’m so grateful for how words come together and contribute to my life. I would like to thank my family very much for their sensitivity on this issue, for standing by me and encouraging me.
