We had the good fortune of connecting with Bailey Bauman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bailey, how do you think about risk?
I think about risk taking as a way of overcoming wether that be about overcoming a fear, challenge or even your own negative head space which can happen a lot in this industry. Risk taking is why I am here doing what I am today, by not listening to society’s or anyone else’s standards of what I have to be or do in life to become successful or feel fulfilled. In my career thus far everything that I have done I would consider a risk, when doing hair sometimes the bigger the risk the bigger the reward. Trying something new even if we aren’t sure yet can lead to much success as we tend to overthink the idea of failure, but failure only happens when you allow yourself to be defeated by it, you just have to overcome it and be true to yourself. Don’t be afraid to take risks especially if you want to be not good, but great in your art or craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Hairstylist and Barber I enjoy all things color and cutting as well as extensions! To start off I am Bellami extension certified and love offering extension services to my clients. As far as color I love it all but some of my favorites would be platinum blondes, coppers, brunettes, lived-in color and pastels/vivid color. I enjoy doing all different types of haircuts but a few of my favorites are layered haircuts, shags, and mens medium-longer length haircuts/styles as a lot of barbers are not trained in them or do not prefer to work with longer hair.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many fun things to do in Dallas! My list of things to do and places to try would be, visiting and self touring the city such as deep ellum, downtown, etc. going up to the top of Reunion tower. Visiting the Dallas Museum of Art, having a drink at the Adolphus hotel or some of the speakeasies in Dallas, one of them being deep ellum candy company. Go to a concert at the Dallas House of blues or go with some friends to the Dallas comedy club. Some of my favorite places to eat would be sky bloosm which is a roof top restaurant with a intimate feel and an amazing view of the city. Monkey King noodle company is really good as well as Ka Thai. So many good places to eat can be found in deep ellum and downtown it just depends what you are in the mood for.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize my friends and family first and foremost. Secondly I would like to thank anyone who has let me do their hair and have contributed to my education because without you I would not be where I am today. I also want to recognize my educators from when I was in school. Especially my concepts educator, for forever changing my perspective on hair and how to think outside the box.
