We had the good fortune of connecting with Avery Pryer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avery, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started my business, I thought balancing my work and personal life was just going to come easily and I would figure it out a long the way. Well, as my business has grown, I have learned that balancing both aspects of life is not something that just comes easily. It takes planning and patience and figuring out what works best for you as a business owner. It is so important to think about how work and personal go together and how they balance with each other. For me, I value my business and my clients just as much as my friends and family so having that balance between the two is very important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my wedding planning business, Avery Anne Events back in 2014 after I finished my wedding planning and coordination certification. It was a slow start because I lived in an area that really did not have a market for wedding planners. Once I moved back to the DFW area, I saw a huge change and my business took off. I really started working hard on getting my name out there and trying to work with as many different vendors as possible to grow my business. I think what sets me apart from others in my field is the passion that I have for my couples and their love stories. I do my best to center everything I do around the couple and telling their story. To me, that is the most important part of a wedding and having the privilege to be apart of that story is such an honor. Through the years, I have seen all different sizes and types of weddings and I have learned so many things. Probably the most important lesson for me was that at the end of the day, it’s about the couple and celebrating their love. No matter what that looks like. I see so many people get caught up in all of the logistics and planning and so many couples come back after the wedding day and say, “I spent so much time worrying about all of the little things when all I was focused on was marrying my best friend”. It really is such a sweet moment I love witnessing that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the Mckinney area and I really do think our downtown square is such a gem that not many people think to hang out at. It has shopping and food and wine and beer and everything to make any Saturday a day well spent. My favorite spot that is good for a date night or girls night out is called Eight 11 wine bar in Frisco. They have live music on the weekends and fire pits outside for the colder months and the vibe is just very cool. Also, I am a country girl at heart and I feel like you can’t visit dallas without spending time in the Fort Worth stockyards. Especially if you are not from Texas, this will give you the old school country vibes that everyone thinks of when they think Texas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So I owe my success and growth to a couple of different people. First, my mom. I got my ambition and drive from her and she taught me to go after my dreams and that I can do anything I set my mind to as long as I work hard and don’t give up. Really, I owe a lot to my whole family and to my 2 brothers. They are constantly supporting and encouraging me which I am very thankful for. Second, my best friend Kortnee. She is my sounding board for everything I do and a lot of the ideas and purpose behind my business came from her and I definitely would not be where I am without her. Third, my boyfriend Joey. He is my rock and without him, I probably would have given up on this business a while ago. He really believes in me and he tells me all the time how proud he is and is always there to pick me up after a long day of weddings or meetings and I love him more than anything for all of his support.
