We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was I knew I couldn’t work for anyone else. I knew I was purposed to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to create generational Wealth for my children and The next generation so they wouldn’t have to experience what I had to. So I had to take a leap of faith and trust God to sustain me, whatever that looked like.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Touched Tresses Luxury hair & anointed handz. I specialize in locs ,braids, sew ins and quick weaves. What sets me apart is my drive and passion. The fact that I am self taught and am constantly coming up with techniques and products to achieve healthy hair and promote growth. Nobody but God & I is how I got to where I am today. I was consistent and did the work but God considered me. Not many people can pick up and move 13 states away with 800$ and turn that into a 6 figure Buisness during a pandemic. Some days were overwhelming, some days I wanted to give up. It wasn’t easy but my children needed it and that’s what made it worth it for me. I overcame the challenges through prayer and just choosing to show up each day. I learned that consistency is the key to greatness. A individual can literally make or break their own success due to inconsistency. I tell my hair mentees no matter what it looks like push through it because greatness is on the other side.

I just want the world to know my name because I am going places. My brand will be known Global. My success story can be anyone’s as long as you put in the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would recommend Dj’s steak house it’s a vibe and the food is amazing. I would also recommend xoxo dining room it’s a cute ambiance, really girly if you want cute photos and the food is delicious and I enjoyed myself they have a hidden bar in the middle of the restaurant which was a cute twist.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to Dedicate my shoutout to my mother. She sacrificed so much while I was growing up. She made sure that I had the best education. She was hard on me but instilled values and morals and she literally handed me the keys to success. I watched her write poetry and spoken word as a child and I watched how she talked and carried herself and was always willing to mentor young ladies in our community. That drive and willingness she had I knew I could obtain it because I was a product of her creation..
