Meet Astoria Walton | Writer and creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Astoria Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Astoria, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
That’s a great question. I stopped sharing my ideas with people who had a limited mindset. Many times, I had an idea and it was buried underneath the words of a person who lived their life inside of a box. I don’t know their true intentions however the outcome was that my precious idea didn’t come to fruition. So I starting executing first and sharing last.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a creative who comes from a long line of creative people. I write poetry and currently have two ebooks on Amazon. Those were huge accomplishments for me because I am the first published author in my immediate family. Poetry is a space where the writer can express without holding back. One can illustrate a range of emotions through poetry which is beautiful because it creates a place where the reader can feel seen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a fun question. Ideally, I would want her to visit during the State Fair! One of the week days we would spend all day at the fair enjoying the ship ride, fried appetizers and live music. I love music so I’d take her to guitar center and the record store to check out some instruments & vinyls. She can get a cool vinyl that reminds her of the trip! I also know a few late night spots that have live R&B music so that’s a must. We’d have to stop by Serious Pizza for a Texas size pizza slice as well. Lastly we would eat on a few of the best rooftops in Dallas. Oh! As a bonus we would get a small tattoo at GGG ink to celebrate the amazing time we had. I know she would have a memorable time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout God & Jesus Christ. I am a believer and the Lord has blessed me with life. He has given me these talents and decided that I deserve time on earth to share my talent with the world. I want to shoutout my family because I come from a long line of creatives. My daughter for loving me and my parents for their behind the scenes helping hand.
