Meet Ashley Spriggs | Founder & Executive Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Spriggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m proudly from Fort Worth, Texas — raised by my incredible grandparents, whom I lovingly call Mom and Dad. They truly shaped who I am. My dad’s favourite saying was, “It’s just right to do right,” and let me tell you, that quote has been my internal compass ever since. My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, compassion, faith, and humility — and a serious belief in showing up for others.
Even as a kid, I was the one trying to make everyone smile, laugh, and feel good about themselves. I loved seeing others feel confident — probably because I knew what it felt like not to. Middle school was a bit of a self-discovery rollercoaster for me. I still remember the moment my confidence took a hit — when a crush told me he didn’t like “fat girls.” Now, I didn’t think I was fat… but after that, my perception shifted, and it stuck with me longer than I’d like to admit.
Years later, working in a local middle school after-school program, I started noticing young girls struggling with the same things I had — low confidence, shaky self-worth, and not knowing how powerful they truly are. I had an “Oh no, not on my watch!” moment. That’s when the seed for my work was planted — to create a space where girls could be inspired, educated, and empowered to own their voices, love who they are, and walk in confidence.
I always say I wanted to become the woman I needed and the kind of woman I admired growing up. My parents gave me the foundation, God gave me the vision, and the girls give me purpose.

What should our readers know about your business?
IamHER is more than a program — it’s a movement. We’re on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower middle school girls to discover their worth, find their voice, and walk in confidence. We create safe, affirming spaces where girls can be heard and understood — whether they’re learning about financial literacy, stress management, leadership, or how to respectfully tell someone, “no, I’m not doing that.” (Yes, boundaries are taught here too, ok?!)
What sets us apart is that we lead with heart and intention. This isn’t just a job for me — this is personal. Every lesson, every workshop, every affirmation comes from a place of experience, healing, and hope. We don’t just teach girls about the world — we equip them to change it.
Getting here was anything but easy. Starting a nonprofit with nothing but faith, a vision, dream bigger than my budget is not for the faint of heart (or the faint of funds). There were moments I questioned everything — from my ability to lead, to whether anyone would even show up. But God kept showing up. And so did the girls. And so I kept going.
I’ve learned that purpose doesn’t come without pressure. But I’ve also learned that pressure builds strength.
What I’m most proud of? The girls. Seeing them grow, light up, speak up, and show up for themselves — that’s the reward. That’s the “why.” I’m also proud of the community we’ve built — the partners, volunteers, mentors, and families who believe in this work just as much as I do.
What I want the world to know? IamHER is not just about the girls we serve — it’s a reminder to every woman that you are HER, too. Strong. Resilient. Brilliant. Chosen. This story is still being written, and I’m honored to hold the pen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to town, we’d soak in the Fort Worth charm with a walk on the Trinity Trails — my go-to spot for people watching, fresh air, and river vibes. We’d grab a breakfast taco and my personal favorite, a Caramel Devotion from Hustle Blendz, then head out for a little culture, shopping, and spontaneous photoshoots. At some point, there’d be karaoke (because Im always ready for a Beyonce ballad), laughs over ice cream, and a rooftop dinner to take in the view.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, to my grandparents, known as Mom and Dad — who stepped up and raised me with love, discipline, faith, and opportunities I may not have otherwise been given. They didn’t just give me a home; they gave me purpose and principles I carry with me daily.
To my husband — whew! That man believes in me even on the days I barely believe in myself. He pushes me, encourages me, and reminds me that I was built for this… even when I’m running on caffeine and prayer.
To my family and friends — your support means the world. Thank you for cheering me on, praying for me, and sometimes dragging me (lovingly) back into focus when I lose sight of my “why.”
Now, a VERY special shoutout to Ms. Karen Davis — my very first example of a strong, nurturing leader. As a daycare kid, I vividly remember how she made every single child feel like they were her absolute favorite. (Although I’m convinced I was her favorite, lol!) Her impact planted a seed in me, and to this day, she is the image I hold when I strive to make every girl in my program feel valued, seen, and loved.
And finally, to every person who’s given me a chance, believed in the vision, spoken my name in rooms I haven’t entered yet, or simply encouraged me with a “keep going” — THANK YOU. Your support keeps the mission alive and the fire in me burning.
