We had the good fortune of connecting with asharri haswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi asharri, what makes you happy? Why?
Hair! Doing hair makes me happy. I have the freedom to create and bring to life styles clients bring to my attention. It’s like floating on clouds when i’m doing hair. No stress or life issues matter. Hair brings me peace!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started doing hair nearly 15 years ago but took it more seriously when COVID hit. Hair has always been my passion and something that I could do to escape from the world. When I am braiding, it’s like I’m in a tunnel vision everything is silent except my client and the style they are seeking. I came up with N.E.S.S. (Naturally Exquisite Styles by Sha) in February 2022 after finishing up a natural hair care course at FTCC, located in Fayetteville, NC. I knew that moving forward, I wanted to deeply dive into the hair world. I wanted to take my passion and make it my career. I am excited about the growth that’s taken place over the last year. I cherish my clients and treat them like family! I’ve built lifelong friendships from a simple hair appointment. It’s not just a hair appointment when it comes to my clients. They know I’m there to accommodate anything! We’ve laughed, joked, vented, and cried together. My clients and I built a family and a safe haven for a lot of them and their children. I am not nearly where I want to be, but I am not where I used to be, so I’m proud to say that. The journey is not easy, but what in life is? The biggest challenge I had to overcome was moving from North Carolina to Texas and starting completely over with building my brand and my clientele. I’ve learned over the years that you will outgrow things and that it’s okay to close a chapter and move on. You will not always have the support you desire, but as long as you have one supporter, the rest will come. You have to start somewhere! You just have to put yourself out there. I believe things happen for reasons, and what’s for YOU will come! You just have to keep faith and keep pushing on. I want the world to know that N.E.S.S. is here! It’s been a long time coming trying to find a name that stuck with me. It was hard to find something that caught my attention. I crossed out so many names and threw away so many ideas because nothing felt right for me. So the further I thought about NESS I actually thought of it in comparison to a mother’s nest because of how loving and caring they are. Speaking from a personal experience of being a mother firsthand, I wanted parents to feel the same comfort with their children as well as themselves when I provided hair care needs at NESS. I want everyone to be comfortable here, no matter their age!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas it self is a vibe! It’s so many places to see and things to do here. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact location of things being that I am new to the area. I’m looking forward to seeing and experiencing Dallas for itself! So please send recommendations my way 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give props where they are due. For starters huge shoutout to God for giving me the strength to get through. My family and friends for supporting me, but most importantly my sister, my fiancé and our daughter for believing in me and pushing me to go for my dreams. My sister is who pushed me to love hair the way I do.! I remember growing up she would always braid or twist my hair or our friends hair. The joy that was there once she finished is what pushed me to want to learn more. My man and our child whew they’ve been nothing but great! They all go above and beyond to make sure every hair appointment is successful. From helping me prep, keeping clients company, and cleaning after a busy day! Days I wanted to quit they pushed me harder to not give up. So special shout-out to them (Ju, Aschontii, and LiLi) and major shoutout to my NC clients , y’all made this possible!
