We had the good fortune of connecting with Artesia Swindle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Artesia, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has not always been easy for me. As a Type A Personality with a penchant for overthinking, I’ve been known to play it safe. But as an entrepreneur, you’re forced to think outside the box and taking risks is a major part of that. From the initial decision to start your own business to how you operate it daily, all risks. Instead of thinking about it in terms of potential failure, I’ve learned that while the outcomes may not always pan out the way we’d like, risks are absolutely necessary for growth. By taking risks in my business, it’s been easier for me to take them in my personal life as well. Choosing to live outside my comfort zone has allowed me to flourish in ways I never expected.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a residential real estate business that specializes in helping people buy, sell, lease and invest in the DFW metroplex. What sets me apart from others is my dedication to educating my clients and making sure they are empowered to make informed decisions based on their individual needs versus a one-size fits all approach.

Because the education aspect is so important to me, I start with myself. Beyond the minimum requirements to become licensed, I’ve obtained my Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation and Real Estate Negotiation Expert (RENE) certification which provided me with more in-depth knowledge of the industry and enhanced negotiation skills to advocate in the best interest of my clients. I’m most proud of being able to assist those that come to me with a goal but are unsure of rather it can be achieved and helping them bring it to fruition.

I believe I’ve gotten where I am today through my genuine spirit, work ethic, consistency and willingness to help others. It hasn’t all been easy, but that’s life! I make a conscious decision to keep pressing forward even when things aren’t going as planned. That decision leads to new approaches, opportunities and outcomes.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way are; done is better than perfect, do it afraid, there is nothing wrong with doing things your way if it produces the results you desire, it’s OK to ask for help and learn to delegate, you can be both nice and assertive, it’s not an either or situation nor is being kind in business a weakness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I’m an Oak Cliff native, we’d definitely start in Bishop Arts. Stock & Barrel, Eno’s, Oddfellows, El Si Hay, Wild Detectives, Tiny Victories and Reveler’s Hall are my favorites there! Then we’d hit Trinity Groves. Soirée Coffee Bar, Saint Rocco’s, the ArtPark and Cake Bar are a must. Cruising right along to Deep Ellum, we’d hit All Good Cafe for a casual bite or Vidorra and Harlowe for brunch on the rooftop. Then in Uptown, we’d do dinner at Haywire and head to Parliament for drinks. Can’t forget about my other favorite neighborhood bar, Whiskeys. I love good food, great drinks and laid back vibes. Thankfully, my friends are much of the same but we all pop out when we need to and Dallas has so many spots!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my family, close friend circle, real estate mentor and business besties. They keep me motivated, hold me accountable and have each made my journey that much more enjoyable. I truly believe success is nothing without the right people to share it and make everlasting memories with. So I’m grateful to have each of them in my life! I’d also like to thank my clients for trusting me with their real estate needs and referrals because without them, I’d have no business.
