We had the good fortune of connecting with Arlee Pryor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arlee, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
While it once made me uncomfortable, authenticity has become a deeply cherished value of mine as I have experienced how transformative it is. My journey to connect to my true self has not only transformed me as an individual but made me a stronger therapist, business owner, friend, and partner. As a therapist, I have come to witness that authenticity is what we are all really seeking in our relationships. Beneath our defenses and anxious parts, we want to know ourselves and we want to be known by the people we love. It is the foundation of trust, open communication, and connection. By taking a genuine and collaborative approach as a therapist, I hope to inspire my clients to do the same in their relationships. My passion as a therapist lies in helping my clients meet and embrace their truest self and share that with the people they love.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Balanced Life Psychotherapy, a solo private practice based in Dallas serving those across TX and FL though online sessions and walk-and-talk sessions at White Rock Lake. My expertise lies in supporting individuals, couples, and families thrive in their relationships with self and others. I’d love to say the journey has been easy, but reality is that it is challenging, yet it is a path I am so thankful for everyday. I view my business as a living organism that is growing each day as I nurture it and I am so proud of it’s growth over six months time. Owning a business has brought to light many important lesson, one being that I have learned to trust myself and my instincts more than before which has carried over into various parts of my life. What I want the world to know is that therapy is for all people and we all deserve the balanced, authentic life we desire. I’m here to provide a safe space for anyone seeking to enhance their well-being and the quality of their relationships.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d make sure they got to spend some time in my three favorite parts of Dallas: Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum, and East Dallas. In Bishop Arts, I would take them to Oddfellows for brunch (I recommend the chicken and waffles) and then we would peruse the different unique, local shops. In Deep Ellum, I would take them to a cool show at The Factory or It’ll Do and explore the vibrant street art. In East Dallas, we would spend some time in nature at White Rock Lake walking or paddle boarding and explore the beautiful Dallas Arboretum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend Mary Moore, owner of Lake Austin Psychotherapy, deserves a heartfelt shoutout! Through grad school to private practice she has been an anchor. Whether it was tackling thesis papers, the complexities of pre-licensure, or jumping in to business ownership, Mary has been a constant source of wisdom and encouragement to whom I owe a great deal of success.
