Meet Arelene Bembry | Candle Maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Arelene Bembry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arelene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I originally genuinely enjoyed making things. I was always crafty and anything that piqued my interest, I was willing to try it. After sometime people started to love the different things I was creating, rather showcasing it at markets or pop up events. I had began getting request from those who loved my craft and how they could purchase it, & It was only then in 2018 I decided to turn my craft into a business. It was something I was willing to take a risk on and took the leap of faith on myself. I was opening myself up to learning about ‘owning a business’ along the way as I didn’t have mentors or at that time, didn’t even know anyone in business. But this journey has taught me so much and it was the best decision I’ve made.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
How I got to where I am professionally today with my business is by being consistent. Consistency has been the name of the game for me. It was far from easy, plenty of obstacles along the way but I persevered and it paid off. When the going got rough, I made sure to balance my business and self-care and didn’t let my challenges stop me. I just went back to the drawing board and started to come up with new ideas. The one thing that sets me apart from anyone else is that I am uniquely me in my craft. I am a firm believer that you may do the same thing as someone else, but they still don’t create like you, & that’s a beautiful thing. What I want the world to know about me, my brand, & my story is anything is possible. Regardless of where you start. Stay consistent, don’t give up, & enjoy what you do along the way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a city called May Landing but it’s not too far from Atlantic City. If you love the nightlife, the casinos are right off the expressway with different activities for adults from gamling, shows, events & nightclubs. If that doesn’t interest you they also have an indoor waterpark, a raceway & arcade at the Showboat. Atlantic also recently got a new Dave & Busters that you can checkout as well! If you love some good fajitas & a tasty Sangria ,the best place for those is Taco el Tio in Egg harbor township. 5 stars!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my family, our little chiweenie, Khalula, most importantly my sisters. They have supported me through this entire journey. When the going got rough, they were there with me. From long nights of packing up orders, to making big purchases for supplies, I was always able to depend on them. I appreciate you, Jewel & Diamond!
