We had the good fortune of connecting with April Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I saw a gap in the fitness industry. As a woman with Hashimoto’s, it was extremely lonely navigating my fitness journey because coaches just didn’t “get it”. They didn’t understand why I was dealing with inflammation, or not recovering well from my workouts…they didn’t understand that my metabolism worked differently and didn’t fit the mold of “eat less, move more”. I myself was experiencing how under-served women with Hashimoto’s are and decided to step up and be the one to do better for these women. My husband and I went all in on bridging the gap in the fitness industry for women with Hashimoto’s.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My husband and I created TeamArodFitness to specifically help women with Hashimoto’s and thyroid problems. A lot of online coaching companies cater to women with “normal” metabolisms – and while they’re serving a wonderful purpose, they’re leaving a lot of women out. We started our business in April 2022. I started by simply sharing my journey on Instagram (@teama_rodfitness). I was about a year postpartum from baby number 3 and I was able to successfully lose over 50 pounds by healing my gut and addressing the root cause to my Hashimoto’s. I was aiming to inspire women with thyroid problems that they too can have a successful health and fitness transformation! We have since helped over 300 women with customized 1:1 coaching. It definitely hasn’t always been easy – there have been growing pains as we carefully grew our team. Knowing that we didn’t want to ask women to invest in our program if we weren’t willing to invest in ourselves, we hired wonderful business mentors (IFCA) to help us grow and scale! In the past 2 years, we have made a name for ourselves as the go-to online functional nutrition company specifically for women with hashimoto’s and/or hypothyroidism.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely LOVE the Stock Yards! We would definitely have to do some shopping while there – I love going into different stores and trying on boots and western apparel. I’m also a sucker for history, so we’d definitely stop in the museum while there! For lunch, I’m a huge fan of Paloma Suerte! Their food is excellent quality and service is fantastic.

Another option in Fort Worth is the Botanical Gardens. It’s super family friendly (which is great for me, since I have 3 kids!), and a really fun area to check out. Afterwards, we’d have to head to HG Sply Co. They have excellent gluten free options which is a must for me!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All glory to God! He guided and directed every single step we’ve taken in our business and He deserves all glory!
