We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoine Rakestraw of The Trendy Barber LLC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antoine, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever made would be going all in with barbering and opening my own shop. The process has been real. From barber exams, barbershop license, to LLC formation and business location. None of this has been an easy task but what is that worth having?

I specialize in precision hair cutting as well as facial hair services.

What sets me apart from others i would say would be my attention to detail, exceptional service and humbleness.

Got where I am today by a lot of hard work, long days/nights, determination and prayer. Nothing was given.

Not easy by far. In life there’s a balance. Take the good with the bad, learn from each mistake, stay consistent and have faith, is how I’ve overcome my challenges.

Everything in life being a situation, challenge, moment or memory is a life lesson. It’s how we respond that makes the difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
From the airport We’d head to The Trendy Barber LLC to get a fire haircut and catch up. Depending on Appetite we grab a bite to eat at Papadeaux or Saltgrass. After eating we head to my home to put up suitcases, visit family and allow them to settle in. After settling in we’d check out Fort Worth Stock yards for food and leisure. Leaving stock yards we’d head to Winstar casino for a night of fun. Later that evening at the casino we’d hash out an itinerary for remaining time in Texas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is not only to my wife Ellie but to God. She was/is my motivation on those dark days/nights no one sees. She’s the balance. With God All things are possible. I feel he’s given me this platform for a reason as well as the tools to propel forward in my assignment.
