We had the good fortune of connecting with Annette Rendon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was pretty simple: just go for it. Take the risks and have no regrets. It’s something I’ve wanted ever since I started earning money. After a few years of going back and forth on whether or not I should start, I just decided to go for it.
It’s been a learning process for sure. Having worked in the massage therapy industry and learning from various places, I felt I could definitely bring value to my own business. I wanted to cater to people who are truly looking for someone to help them, not just see them as a number.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a massage therapist, many people think that taking care of yourself is a luxury. One of my visions is to show people that self-care is much more than that. We need to take care of ourselves in order to take care of others. There is so much more to self-care, and I believe this sets me apart.
Getting to where I am today was not easy. Making mistakes and dealing with self-doubt held me back in the beginning. However, surrounding myself with people who encourage me and see my potential has helped me and continues to help me grow.
Knowing your craft, understanding your business, and excelling in customer service are all important. These are the things I’ve learned that have helped me overcome the challenges throughout my career.
What I want people to know about my story is that all great things take time. Your start is always the hardest, and your journey to your goals takes time to perfect. Enjoy the process, because at the finish line, it will be worth it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is one of my favorite subjects to talk about. There are so many great places to visit in the DFW area. If you like East Asian foods, I recommend Carrollton, where you’ll find many great restaurants. For example, Hot Pot and Korean BBQ are fantastic at a place called Manna Shabu & BBQ. The best soup dumplings I’ve ever tasted come from two different places: one inside the Korean market H-Mart, called Mr. Dumplings, and another in Southlake, called Dragon House.
For hibachi, my family always goes to Japanese Palace in Fort Worth for almost every birthday. If you’re looking for good Mexican food, I’d recommend Lupe Tortilla in North Fort Worth and a small hole-in-the-wall called Taqueria Ruby, also in Fort Worth.
Lastly, for great desserts, I’ll recommend a couple of places. One is Snowy Bingsu & Boba in Flower Mound, and another is Botanas Lokas in South Fort Worth.
There are so many more places I would love to add, but these are the ones I always recommend people try out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and God have been the support of my entrepreneurial journey. Starting from my late grandmother to my mom, my sisters, and other family members who have ventured into their own businesses, they deserve recognition. I believe my entrepreneurial side stems from them. Without their drive, advice, and support, I might not have had the courage to start my own business. Additionally, I attribute my success in life to God. He blesses me with the ability to pursue what I love. Without His guidance, I couldn’t have reached where I am today. Moreover, God has surrounded me with unexpected individuals who have been instrumental in my journey as a business owner and as a person. Though I can’t name them all, to those who have been part of my life, even if our paths don’t cross often, know that you are loved and deeply appreciated.
