We had the good fortune of connecting with ANGITO SANTOS JR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ANGITO, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
one of the decisions that made my career take off was being open to people’s opinions and not getting offended, was joining forces with other artist and producers to make the music more powerful sometimes other people see in you what you can’t see you are capable of when you put all the ideas together you get magic.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born in Queens New york, I grew up in a party city i watched my dad sing every sunday in the house always loved loud music and throwing parties when I got to high school was when I notice i could do my own music and write my own songs once I moved to Dallas TX I got with the right people and started recording at pro studios as I got older i was real good with the mic and alot of local latin radio station took noticed and used me as an mc a.k.a hype man for all the major latin clubs in Dallas and all major latin concerts. My name got bigger and bigger in the city as an MC and I used the hype to build on that to launch my artist career and it worked and now I am doing music full time with following that keeps growing everyday. One of the lessons in life that helped me become who I am is don’t trust everyone and build a strong team this industry is wonderful but at the same time there are alot of shady people dont love to harm just stay focused and don’t burn bridges you never know when you need to cross that bridge again. My brand is built on a young latin boy that came from the bottom with loving family that had very little but gave it there all to make me as happy as I could my childhood was hard due to where I grew up lots of gang violence and hard to do anything right being where i was from my brand is to show anyone from the bottom that there is a way out and dreams do come true you have to stay focused..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take them to eat at one of my favorite spots in Plano texas called Earls Kitchen to me one of the best places to eat lobster tails and steak and have a few drinks. The following days would take then to a few clubs I know in the city like Wednesday Club Theory ,Friday Club VIVO, Saturday Club vivo and TE DESEO these to me are the best party places, would also take them downtown to see the city lots to do in Dallas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people in my life that have always supported me and deserve a huge thank you for always pushing me to be a better artist a better person better man, That would be my mother Rosaura Almonte, my wife Cristina Rodriguez, My three kids , Angel, Natalie, and Luis. Also my close friend and producer Kayro La R, My Friend Luis Tosta, my friend Oscar Aleman, my investor Javier and My dad ANGITO SANTOS without these people I would not be where I am today
