We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Mikeska and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In general, I am not a risk taker. I am very cautious, and tend to play out each and every possible scenario before making a decision, anticipating all potential problems and hoping to ensure as much success and harmony with the results as I can.
As risk-averse as I tend to be, starting a business is a huge leap of faith and I found myself faced with the choice to continue down the safe and comfortable path or follow my passion and believe that the path laying out ahead of me was one that God placed there for me to walk down.
Without that risk, I would never have had the opportunity to see this dream come to fruition.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born and raised in the DFW area, and I am definitely a Texan at heart! Since the time I turned 16, I’ve loved to work. From accounting and property management to marketing and automotive, I’ve touched on a wide array of industries and skill sets. The event industry is one that truly stole my heart. Being able to help plan and facilitate some of the most special moments in my client’s lives never gets old. I was able to draw on so much of my past work experience when working towards opening The Social Space. Being able to manage several moving pieces is a skill that I developed early on, and it has been key in helping to advance both myself and my business to where it is today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take someone to spend time in Near Southside. The culture and community, to me, are the heart of Fort Worth. Grabbing a snack at The Bodega on S. Main and heading to dinner off Magnolia Ave, you can’t go wrong with any of the locally-owned restaurants in the area. We would spend the day walking in South Main Village, popping from place to place, visiting all that the neighborhood has to offer. The second stop would have to be Joe T’s, no one can visit Fort Worth without taking in a meal on their patio. After dinner drinks on the rooftop at Reata would top off the night, with the great view of downtown and cozy Fort Worth atmosphere.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is my motivation for every single thing I do. They love and encourage me every single day. Getting to share a business with them, teach them areas of our industry and watch them learn hard work and a passion for it is truly a joy.
