We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Brantley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose this career because I never fit into the mold of what employers wanted me to be. I need to be able to be myself in order for me to thrive. Work never feels like work, I get to create beautiful art everyday, and I love how no two days are the same.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create flawless weaves and natural hairstyles. I’m proud that I have been in business for myself for over 6 years and I have never had to work a second job or ask for assistance. Most businesses don’t make it past the second year and I feel extremely accomplished to do so. As an African American and a female business owner, I have learned that I am the minority. Sometimes I have to work twice as hard as someone who looks different than me. I want the world to know that I put my all into my business and what it has become today! This is my passion and I’m living my dream. I never let anyone tell me no. Im just getting started and there is nowhere else for me to go but up!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Me and my closest friends are foodies! Dallas is a great place for food, so I would take them to lower Greenville for bar hopping and Mexican food. I love a good steak, so one of those meals would take place at Ruth Chris. I cook 3-4 nights a week, so I would cook them my fine cuisine and relax at the house with a glass of wine. We do enjoy a night out on the town periodically so I would take them to the House of Blues or to. Karaoke Club.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank all of my beautiful clients for going through the ups and downs of life with me. I have had clients who started with me over 6 years ago. I call them my A-1’s. They have encouraged me when I feel doubtful, given kind words, bought me lunch when I can’t leave the salon, offered services, assisted me when I’ was sick lol. Always stuck beside me and encouraged me as a business owner. To some stylists their clients are just their clients, to me, my clients make my world go round. They deserve the best.
