We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own platform?

MOMM is not a business, it’s more of a platform.

I started Music On My Mind to help promote local bands in the North Texas area. It started with bands I had friends in; shout out to Suite Sensations for being my first interview. I ask bands questions that help promote themselves and the location where they are performing at. I’ve been fortunate enough to have bands invite me to come to their shows!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do a lot of things – and it has been a crazy life but I cherish every experience. I am a music educator, musician, and creator of Music On My Mind so it’s safe to say I wear many hats in the music world! I am very proud of how much MOMM has grown as a platform for local musicians, my personal projects, and any projects of others that I’ve been a part of.

My love for music has helped me get to where I am today. I have always been a part of the fine arts in school. I’ve done it all; orchestra, choir, band, and theater. Shout out to the schools I went to Juan Seguin High School and Tarrant County College in Arlington, Texas, and The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. There are always challenges in anything you do, but I believe you take the lessons and experiences you have and grow from them to become a better person.

Truly, I just want to help grow, develop, create, and advance music in any way possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Arlington so some cool things to check out would be Inclusion, Salter Bros., or White Rhino. Get some good food from Cane Rosso, Social House, or Marquez Bakery. I would take them to a cool bar like Caves or Milos and maybe a show venue like Growl Records or Maverick’s Bar and Grill. Outside of Arlington, I am always trying to explore Dallas so I would take them to Deep Ellum and show them the nightlife there, or maybe go to the Perot Museum because science is cool.
I love going to the Fort Worth Stockyards because I’m a huge fan of barbeque so we would have to go to the motherland.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For sure my family and friends! My wife has often gone to shows with me and helped me behind the camera. I also have awesome friends that love to support the local music scene and come and help out as well.

Shoutout to the friends and family members that share my videos on their social media.

I need to shout out Deep Ellum Radio and Veronica Young for adding me to the DER family! It’s been a great partnership and I thank them for letting me be a part of something so cool!

Lastly, I’d like to shout out all the bands that I’ve interviewed so far and all of the bands and artists I will be interviewing in the future!
