We had the good fortune of connecting with Andria.Lakee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andria.Lakee, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s always been something that was naturally in me; by that I mean, the music has always been naturally in me . I’ve tried more than once to run away from music & what I’ve been called to do, out of fear & doubt, the overall debilitating feeling failure . I was a pattern of thinking I was becoming comfortable with but I’ve realized on this journey that, what is truly for me, will be only for me. & that something is music, it is my artistry. The reason I’ve chosen to pursue a career in music, is it’s something I love, loved, & continue to explore & learn about. I truly couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my time or my life lol This is a career I’ve been striving for & chasing after for years & lil by lil I get reassurance that this is what I’m supposed to do. So why I chosen to to be a musician, an artist ? This is what I was meant to do. This is what I love to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I will say what sets me apart from other artists out currently and before me, I choose to operate in my own lane. I choose to give in produce music, lyrics from my own living, my own experiences, I never try to mimic anyone else’s anything, I never try to have gimmicks or follow trends. I can only give was authentically in me was authentically there, so I choose to create music that insights a listener to feel a certain feeling or think in different ways. I really try to create music for the open minded, for growth, to always see it from another person’s point of view if you can I think that’s what sets me apart from everyone else. iMessage the thing that I’m most proud of all excited about is is the actual creative process, and making a song like I get so enthralled in in tune with what I’m doing that when I’m listening to the playback on certain parts of the whole song like I just get so I guess so have you I guess so I don’t know is it feeling that I can explain they feel so good just to know that I have a creative ability to do you know produce some of the sounds in music and lyrics that I’m giving to people as that’s the best part of it that’s the part that I’m most proud of for me. I am along in my journey lol I am still going but I got to this point of transitioning into making this a full-time career, when I was really little, always sining and I always knew I wanted to be a singer. I was in choirs, different singing groups, praise teams, different show choirs, plays, etc. just everything & anything that I could do to help me elevate and work on my craft. I got here by being persistent and never stopping, never giving up, even at times when I wanted to, not allowing that doubt, fear that I was talking about earlier to come in and take control but kind of have somewhat control over what I would like and what I want to give out to the world. so this is something that’s never been easy but definitely worth it and when I say never been easy I say that meaning as musicians as artists with the current climate of the world and as it changes you know we run into and deal with certain mental or emotional issues, just overall problems in life that may cause a hold or stop us from creating or from fulfilling our purpose. It’s always been kind of an internal battle with with myself and following my music and following my dream. Like am I doing the right thing, is this what I really wanna do, this the right path for me and every time the answer has been yes lol so I guess the hardest thing about it all is the constant battle that I weigh on with myself . And the only way that I’ve been able to combat it, is falling in love with myself as an Artist, as Andria.Lakee. & with the help of meditation and an amazing support system, it’s kept me going in the game but it is definitely about the people & the mindset that you have around you that will propel you forward in this in this career, As well as networking and actually putting in the work. What I would like the world to know about me as a artist is, 1. I am a regular person just like anybody else, just trying to fulfill my purpose on this earth and that anything that I do is with full good intentions, especially my music because I put everything and then some into it. I guess most importantly is to remember to enter into things with a good heart, with love and I think that’s what you get by listening and hearing my music.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First place we’re going of course, would be to fuel city in Dallas ! Tacos are the key to my heart! As well as few other hidden gem Taco spots around the area ! Then of course we would to Arlington to catch an amazing showcase of local artists (myself included 😉 ) Followed by catching what’s going down in the bishop arts district! I would take them to the studio I usually go to in Grand Prairie ( FreeGame Studios; Nojo Wallace x FreeGame Griff) Of course we would have to go main event & do laser tag or an arcade (cause I’m still a big ass kid lol ) Check out all the local Black Owned Businesses of course ! Lol would be one hell of a weekend!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow lol I hope the list isn’t to long lol Well for starters of course a big beautiful shoutout to Yahweh (GOD) for blessing with such a amazing talent, I’m forever in awe . my amazing mother & late grandmother for passing down this gift & helping nurture it through the years. To my family, my dad, all my aunts, uncles, cousins bother & sisters, the love you guys taught me & instilled in me is something I’m eternally grateful for & for always support me & my dream . To my loving & ultra supportive framily (friends; the family I got to choose) I use to pray every night as a lil girl that Yah, would bless me with true life long friends. & that’s exactly what I have. First & foremost to my heart beats De’Evelyn Marie, Azami Iman, & Court. The way they pour into me & my craft over the last 7+ years has been nothing short of the blessing I prayed for. To my day ones Sable, Danica, Tyler, Taylor, Camile, Kenya , for being at every show, studio session, photo shoot etc etc lol y’all have been with me supporting, pushing, & loving me like no other thru it all, my immense gratitude could never be measured. & last but not least to the wonderful Arlington artist community, to Nojo, Shay Raziel & Ali Mozart, DPrice, Autumn, Black magicMama , Le Lune (Crimicak), the list goes on, but these few have pushed me & been in my corner for about the past 4 years now & im just grateful & blessed to have y’all, for y’all taking me in & showing me so much love & given me so many opportunities to showcase my talent & what I love. Thank you thank you a million times over. Without any of these people, there would be no Andria.Lakee. I love you all with a love that could never been measured.
