We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy F. Tate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy F., what do you attribute your success to?
Passion. I have always had a passion for supporting and empowering women. In every role I’ve had, this has been the key to my success. Midwifery is unique in that you get to walk through one of the most challenging but impactful times in a woman’s life. As a midwife, I am not just the care provider. At Origins we believe that we are the coach and guide throughout pregnancy, labor and birth. We truly believe that you should walk away from your birth experience feeling empowered.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I always knew I was a midwife! I originally trained as a midwife in the early 90’s. I was fortunate to grow up in the birth world, I was at my brothers births in the 70’s and hung out while my Mom taught natural childbirth classes for Austin Midwives. I remember playing “midwife” when I was a little girl. Midwifery is a hard path. After training as a midwife, I realized the on call life was almost impossible to balance with motherhood, soccer games, PTA. For many years I struggled to balance the call and passion to support women’s birth choices with a “day job”. I continued to work part time in the birth field as a doula, birth assistant and lactation counselor; but always felt torn between my career and my passion. Following your passion is important! In 2010, I made the decision to finish midwifery school. While working full time, I attended classes and workshops, and was on call every off minute for clinic and births. I am not sure how it all fell into place other than through Gods grace. I am a midwife and own Origins Birth and Wellness Dallas with my business partners, Gina Thomson and Kaitlyn Wages. I am so proud to support and honor women’s childbirth choices. Origins has two locations, Fort Worth and Dallas. We provide Well Woman, Preconception and Holistic Pregnancy care.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A stroll through Farmers Market, a walk along White Rock Lake, coffee at White Rock Coffee, dinner on the patio at Marianno’s(I am a Tex Mex junkie! ) and maybe a little music at Balcony Club(cocktails if off call).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has sacrificed so much to support my goals. So many missed moments over the last decade so that I can walk alongside woman in their birth.
