Meet Amy & Dan Burgos | Business Owners / Investors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy & Dan Burgos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy & Dan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Dan grew up in an entrepreneurial environment and always had the itch to start a business. Over time, we started investing in real estate. Eventually, we both grew tired of our jobs. The spark was watching entrepreneurial shows like Shark Tank and The Profit.
We would talk about the freedom we felt during one of our vacation trips. We then started researching businesses that would be a good fit for our goals and skills. Dan is the visionary and financial brain, while Amy is the operator and face of the business. We landed on Salon Suites and made our first acquisition shortly thereafter. Our goal was to create the freedom to be our bosses and not have to answer to anyone else.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from others: We believe in the value of culture. We strive to create a sense of belonging in every one of our locations for our tenants. While this may be intangible, it’s always invaluable to the right people. We got to where we are by treating our tenants with respect, fairness, and empathy. No, it was not easy. We’ve had to make sacrifices. We abandoned our cushy jobs and rolled up our sleeves to do the tough work ourselves. Some of the lessons: Price is not everything, take care of your people, and they will reciprocate, show people you care, and separate from poor-fit clients quickly. We overcame our challenges by taking care of our people during bad times, such as the pandemic, and we did not lose a single tenant. We are Unique in this industry because we care deeply about the success of our tenants. Our purpose is to help beauty professionals thrive, and we strive to honor that every day by providing the best support they can get.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Texas has so much to offer. Here is a summary: Places we enjoy dining include Gloria’s café, Texas Roadhouse, Flips (Sports Bar), Los Molcajetes, Guess Family BBQ (Waco), Boudreaux (San Antonio), Keema Boardwalk (Seafood restaurants), Pappas Seafood (Houston), Greek Isles, and Pappasitos (Houston). Places we would visit: Downtown Fort Worth on a Friday afternoon/evening (movies, theaters, comedy shows, live music, drinks, etc.) and the Stockyards. The San Antonio Riverwalk and maybe SeaWorld (if kids). We would visit the Kemah Boardwalk, the Dallas Union Tower, south Padre Island, and watch a live sports game (Mavs, Rangers, Cowboys, or Stars).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dan’s father, Danilo Burgos Suarez, was and still is the main influence on us launching our entrepreneurial journey. Dan grew up watching his dad interact with clients and living the entrepreneurial lifestyle. We have both drawn on his experiences, both good and bad, to inform our decisions in our businesses. Nonetheless, both our families always offer support and words of encouragement, and we thank them all for their support.
