Meet Amnah Almamori | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amnah Almamori and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amnah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before I started amounas.sweets I had always enjoyed being in the kitchen and baking sweets for my family and friends. My thought process behind starting my own business was really to extend that out to my community. I feel so accomplished when I make sweets that people truly enjoy. In January of 2021 I moved to Plano, Texas from California and decided that a fresh start was the best time to start this new venture!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I had always wanted to be a teacher. I loved working with kids and have been around them most of my life. So when I got to San Jose state I knew I wanted to major in child development. After getting my bachelors, I decided to apply for my masters in the same field. In 2019, I graduated with my masters in child development. I learned that hard work isn’t the only thing needed to achieve my goals, I needed determination most of all. Being determined to accomplish whatever I set my mind to, and get it done right, is my motivation. Those are the characteristics I use when I’m baking for amounas.sweets.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places to visit here in DFW would definitely be the Dallas reunion tower, Klyde Warren park for beautiful picnics, and the JFK memorial. One of my favorite restaurants here would definitely be Bae’s Kitchen in Lewisville, they have delicious sandwiches along with some of the best boba drinks I’ve had! For dessert, you can’t beat sno cones from Daesy’s Tropical Sno in Arlington.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been my biggest motivation in this journey! Growing up, any time I made something new they would be the first to try it and they let me know if they loved it or if there was something that needed to be changed. Lately, that job has shifted over to my husband, Ali. He has been so helpful in this new journey. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do now without his support. He’s even there with an extra hand when I have a lot on my plate.
