Meet Amina Konaté | Freelance dancer in NY

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amina Konaté and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amina, how do you think about risk?
Risk is what drives everything. I hate taking risks, even the roller coaster scares me, but without it, nothing gets done. I feel like in my career and life, I was able to go on and evolve by taking risks, whether it is trying a new step that could be more dangerous than usual or moving halfway across the globe!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a dancer, I wish for my art to make as many people happy and aware as possible. I feel like it can be a way to escape reality when needed but also a way to express important things from reality with a more accessible approach. It is not an easy thing to achieve because as performers we are always confronted to the others’ opinion which can have a great impact on how you see yourself and on your confidence, in a good as much as in a bad way.
That being said, the more we continue, the more we learn to trust our art and our love for it which allows us to take the liberty to share it with the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was to visit me, I would take them to the big touristic places first like Times Square, and then walking on the 5th Avenue to see the Rockefeller Center and go all the way up to Central Park. But then, we would have to brunch on 9th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, take a walk on Hudson River, grab a drink in Soho, enjoy the beautiful view from Dumbo!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my parents and my sister who have always supported me and helped me through this journey. I would not have been able to be dancing today without them or without my friends, whether from my hometown or those I met along the way.
