We had the good fortune of connecting with Allie Adamson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always loved making my home a place that I absolutely adore and feel happy with. I started really getting into interior design after college and quickly learned how to do my own DIYs and eventually taught myself how to use power tools. I love the process of envisioning a room and then building it out and see it all come together! It’s so rewarding to me and what I truly find joy in!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been the kind of girl that if I want to do something, I’m going to figure out how to do it and make it happen! I wanted to learn how to remodel my home by myself so I picked up my first nail gun, watched a few YouTube videos on how it works, and started working on my first build! Once I started learning how to use all the power tools, I couldn’t be stopped! I remodeled my house, room by room, and turned it into my dream home.
Now, I love to do tutorials on Instagram to teach other women how to not be afraid to use power tools and build out their own homes. I get so much joy out of hearing others success stories because they watched my tutorials.
If anyone learns anything from me, I hope that it’s to not be afraid to learn something new and give it a shot! And when it comes to building, my motto is always “try your best, caulk the rest!”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Outside of being at Lowe’s or Home Depot all the time, I love a good outdoor patio! One of my favorite places that is local to OKC is the Chicken Shack… great outdoor area, live music, and the fried chicken is the best!
Other favorites on the list are: Chicken N Pickle, Eddie’s Bar & Grill, The Mule (try the macaroni pony!), Red Rock Canyon Grill (the best margaritas and a good patio), and Taco Nation in the Wheeler District!
We also love a good country concert during the summer – that’s always on the list of things to do!
There are several not so common places in Oklahoma that we love to visit during the summer for a day trip and swimming! Flint Creek, Blue Hole, and Medicine Park are a few of our favorites. We are always adding to that list and recruiting our friends to come with us!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started my interior design, DIY, and Instagram journey on a whim and had no idea how it was going to go. But so many of my close friends and family encouraged me to share my talent so I decided to give it a try! I owe a lot to my close friends for always being so encouraging and supportive what I was trying to accomplish!
I also have an incredible community on Instagram who have followed and supported me from day one and give me so much encouragement to live out my dream of being an interior designer. I look up to so many interior design content creators on Instagram and find them to be my source of inspiration!
