We had the good fortune of connecting with Aliyah Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aliyah, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most important decision that I’ve made that contributed to my success was 100% believing in myself, and trusting that God would lead me in the direction I needed to go. A lot of times people have this dream or idea in their mind of what they could be, but don’t take action on it because the dream seems so far away. When I first started taking my TikTok seriously in April of 2022 after losing my corporate job, you couldn’t pay me to believe I’d be where I am now. I didn’t believe in myself at the start of it all I was just “doing what I could”, and testing out the waters. After a few months of trial and error I started to really zone in on how I wanted to carry myself, my brand, and what I wanted to be known for. This started with fashion and beauty, but as of late I’ve aligned with Lifestyle and Content Creation Advice. I’ve learned that I have a gift of being able to motivate and inspire others to show up and believe in themselves, just as I would always tell myself. How I feel is that once God shows you what your purpose is, its important to lean into it. People love to hear me talk, give advice, and be my authentic relatable self, so this is what I’ve done and will continue to do. Obstacles will always arise because we’re all human, and its life, but if you believe in yourself there’s nothing that can stand in your way for too long that you can’t overcome. You just have to believe for yourself. Thank you!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is not only my work ethic, but my ability to pivot when ideas have run their course. A lot of times you see people who continuously try to force something to work in their favor or make it stick when the idea they’ve set out has come to an end. Instead of trying to force something out of nothing I have an act for pivoting and constantly growing and learning new things about myself and craft. I’m the most proud of my continued growth and excited to see what the future holds for me because I know its BIG. It hasn’t been easy at all to get where I am, and I haven’t even scratched the surface, but I’m forever grateful for the journey! A lot of people only tell their success story, but when you first start this Content Creator journey its hard for a lot of us. Working with brands who don’t see your worth, trying to make ends meet with finances, and simply finding YOUR lane in a world of people who are also trying to do the same thing. A major lesson I’ve learned and I feel like any aspiring creator could also learn from is that although analytics are important in a financial sense, and when it comes to working with brands, but be true to who you are and do content creation because YOU LOVE IT. Don’t do it for the money, do it for the passion because the money won’t always come right away. Just like it didn’t come right away for me. Don’t focus too much on numbers, focus on your quality and the value you can bring to any platform you choose. Show up as your authentic self because people will appreciate that more.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost shoutout to God. I am nothing without the love and continued grace from him! Secondly, I’d love to shoutout my family, friends, and followers who have supported me from the beginning. The ones who stuck with me and rooted me on even when I didn’t know what I was doing or who I wanted to be. Thank you for believing in me when I wasn’t capable of believing in myself.
