We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Dowd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk taking keeps life fresh! I am a person that doesn’t like monotony, so taking risks is sometimes that best way to see how much more rewarding and fulfilling life can be. Taking a risk brought me to Dallas because I quit my job and moved to a totally different city without a job. It was definitely a leap of faith, but risks have to be calculated as well. They have to be well thought out, but when its time, you just have to go for it. I shortly got a job, my dream job, and it proved that risks are good. Since then, I’ve continued to take risks. My newest being the launch of my boutique, The CRWND BTQ! Since taking the first risk in life, all others don’t seem so scary. Having a plan and trusting in God to direct my steps will always keep me being unafraid of taking a risk!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a boutique called The CRWND BTQ. I took my passion for fashion and years of pageant experience to create a brand that provides what I call an elevated occasion-wear experience to all women. I want women to radiate in their most CRWNing moments whether it be at a ball, gala, special occasion, or any day just to feel better. Make getting dressed up a thing again!
I am most excited about just getting started! I’ve been in business for almost 2 months now. God gave me this vision back in 2016, but I wasn’t ready to bring it to fruition. So, it’s been very rewarding in being patient, maturing spiritually, and being solely financially able to launch my business. I’m just excited for what is to come!
Although I am just starting, I feel it has been fairly easy because I listened when it was time to actually make the move. I believe had it happened any sooner, I would be telling a different story. I know every day won’t be great in entrepreneurship and the hard days will come, but I’m ready to face it. My village of fellow entrepreneur friends have prepared me well. Shoutout to them!
I’ve learned to pay for convenience! Building a brand and business is work! I’ve utilized Digital Marketing Maven business consulting to help me structure my business from top to bottom. It helped take the guess work out of what to do next when forming my business. People are experts in all kinds of fields, so utilize those business to help yours.
I want the world to know that The CRWND BTQ is all about protecting the very essence of being a woman and Queen by making you feel your best, when you dress the best! I want to be a woman of color owned business providing evening gowns and after 5 chic attire for those times that you are dressing for a special occasion. My boutique curates a more streamlined approach to finding apparel for the balls, galas, and date night because it is what I specialize in. When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you radiate! Come get CRWND for your next elevated occasion! #shesCRWND
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the “oh I didn’t know this was here” type of spots. I enjoy finding the speakeasys in the city. So while I don’t have a detailed itinerary, I can tell you it would include a dinner spot with a dressy vibe, a speakeasy like Bourbon and Banter, and some great live music at Sandaga!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicated this shoutout to my family and closest friends. They have all motivated me, poured into me, and supported me in making my dreams become a reality!
