We had the good fortune of connecting with Aline Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aline, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I got my Chemistry degree back in 2015, but later decided to be a stay at home mom while my kids were still young. After they got a little older, I faced the common mom dilemma: I wanted to go back to work, but I also wanted to be home with my kids. It just seemed like no choice would make me completely happy. That frustration kept coming up in conversations I had with my husband, until one day he said: “Maybe you need to think outside the box. What if those jobs you’re looking at aren’t the ones you’re supposed to pursue? You should just start your own business. You love cosmetics, how about you create your own brand?”
I’ll admit that deep down that made me extremely excited and hopeful, but I thought I didn’t have the right skillset to start a whole business from scratch. “I can’t just start making cosmetics, how do I even do that?”, I said. But the seed had already been planted.
Not too long after that, I received a gift from someone: well packaged bath products from a well-known brand. It was my first time trying them out, and I was a bit surprised. I legitimately thought: “Mmmm I could make these myself. WAIT! I COULD ACTUALLY MAKE THESE!”. Next day I started looking into how to make bath products. I got books, courses, joined facebook groups, binge-watched youtube videos and started making and testing products myself.
Now it’s amazing to think that I get to create and develop products in the field that has always really interested me, while still spending time with my family.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I created this business because I wanted to formulate and handcraft unique cosmetics. I make body oils, sugar scrubs, bar soaps, and have many more products planed for the future. I spend most of my time researching high quality ingredients and reputable suppliers to source them from. It has been fun to artistically express myself through my products and to realize I can be a versatile and resourceful creator. I am used to giving my heart and soul to what I commit myself to, so I’ve put enormous effort into this business from the very beginning.
One of the things I value most about what I do is, I have complete control over everything I make. And get to create something that is completely mine: from the product look and presentation, to their labels, to the website that I designed myself.
Starting a small business from scratch, with limited resources, forced me to work in many different ‘departments’: not only do I need to be good at researching, developing and testing the products, but I also need to market and photograph them, create social media content, and keep up with inventory and accounting.
Doing everything myself is definitely a lot of work and it gets overwhelming at times, especially while also being a wife and mother. But reaping the benefits of my hard work made me realize I am capable of doing so much and gives me the confidence I need to keep pushing forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have a not so minor obsession with the Dallas Arboretum. It’s such a beautiful and peaceful place! Definitely a must for anyone that’s visiting DFW. I live in Allen, and going to Watters Creek for dinner never disappoints. The string lights set a romantic and magical mood, while the tree house and playground area make it fun for the kids. They also host some live music concerts to make the experience even better. Grimaldi’s has some of the best pizza I’ve ever had here in the US (I’m from Brazil and let me tell you that Brazilian pizza is amazing and pretty hard to beat).
We moved to DFW from Waco, and one thing that made us really excited was the diversity of restaurants the bigger city has to offer. We can try many different cuisines without needing to drive too much out of our way.
There’s also so many options for entertaining the kids, from museums to aquariums to indoor playgrounds and parks.
I’ll admit I love staying home and don’t get out much, but I’m glad we are in a big city and will never get bored when it comes to going out and having fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am lucky to have received much support and encouragement from so many people in my life. But I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my friend Aimee Siqueira. She is constantly thinking of ways to help my business grow, gives me much needed confidence regarding the quality of the products I make and is just as passionate about my creations as I am. I also have to give credit to my husband and family, who have fully supported me from day 1.
