We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Monét and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is staying authentic to who I am and what Mone’t Motion Pictures stands for. You can get lost in this judgmental world with social media at our fingertips, but being intentional about who you are and what you are pouring out into the world will keep you grounded. Success is not determined by sales, number of projects released to your audience or how many employees are hired and retained in a year; success is knowing the goal in which you set for yourself and your brand was attained.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art highlights the minority voice; it shines a light on the black woman. Many stories we hear or see pertaining to the minority woman is of the suppressed days or we typically see the black woman as a supporting character. My art is different from others because in our world, the black woman is a goddess and she is appreciated as such. Mone’t Motion Pictures showcases the good, bad, and the great of the minority woman.
I am most proud that my company and I have released a project, standing true to what we pride ourselves of, every year for the past 3 years. The momentum we have now, cannot be halted. Getting to this point did not come easy. Nothing great is ever easy, right? I started my career in film in 2016 and truthfully, I had been writing and creating stories since elementary school. After fully engaging in my craft, I realized I could not half step being in the film industry. I had to give it all I had. I started posting flyers everywhere I could regarding my business. Any person I would speak with, I explained my business. I embarked on many years of trails such as low resources, business inquiries that did not highlight my business motto and the male dominated industry not viewing my work as worthy as a producing woman. How I overcame those challenges was, not giving up. I stayed consistent and sparked momentum.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is everything is trail and error. You cannot get better in your craft without making mistakes and learning from them. Business and art is similar to life; in order to thrive, you have to take it day by day and be aware of the lessons along the way. I want the world to know that my brand is here to stay. Mone’t Motion Pictures loves highlighting the underrated stories that will shock the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it was a week long trip and my best friend visited from out of town I would first take her to ‘Drakes’ for dinner upon her arrival. The esthetic is nice and the food is amazing. The following day we would go to ‘Adolphus’ for high tea. Adolphus has amazing pastries with a tea that will keep you coming back for more. We would then go to Highland Park Village for a much needed shopping day. Later that evening we would head over to ‘Kai’ for some tasty sushi. A fun activity we would partake in is, put-put at The Colony – Grandscape. My friends and I are more sit down and eat type of ladies so we would spend most of our time at restaurants. One of my favorite places is ‘The Mansion’, so of course that would be on the list of activities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my go to DP and AC (Mike Miles and Rewd), my assistant (Ciarra Harmon), my production coordinator (Ms. B) and all team members who have contributed to the success of Mone’t Motion Pictures.
