We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Courtney-Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that I’m always striving to do better, be better and gain knowledge + perspective. Failure to me is stagnation and lack of progress. If I reach a point where I feel like I know everything- I’m doing something wrong. In my postpartum support and newborn care practice, I’m always investing into myself and my community to acquire more knowledge, niche experiences and varied perspectives so I may bring these collective gatherings to my clients and integrate this into the support and education I provide to them as they grow into confident, amazing parents. No matter how much knowledge and experience I gain, I am firm that I do not know everything. Babies are my expertise, but each baby is different and I’m always listening and learning from them. They have so much to offer and are such excellent communicators but we’re often unwilling to take the time to listen. I will never be too experienced or “good” to listen to the needs of a baby, listen to a parent’s wishes or do in-depth research to troubleshoot a complex (or even simple) issue. This coupled with the personal connection I provide to my clients has made me very successful in my tiny, niche industry and I’ve been so lucky to connect with and support dozens of families,

What should our readers know about your business?
Our company was founded in 2019 over many lattes and laughs at Halcyon in East Dallas. The goal in creating Harmony Baby Concierge was to raise the standard of care for postpartum families seeking newborn care in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Many families seek out care, under the impression they are inviting an experienced professional into their home only to be met with unsafe practices and advice that is neither biologically normal or developmentally appropriate. We’ve grown exponentially from where we began with our two-woman-show. We have a team of 10+ wonderful Newborn Care Specialists, Doulas and RNs that partner with families through DFW. We require extensive experience and/or education from our team members in addition to education and screening on our end to ensure evidence based best practices are being followed. Overall we are most proud of the personal connection we develop with each and every client our boutique agency partners with. We are a small agency and both myself, and my partner Chevelle still work in home with families 4-7 nights per week. Our biggest challenge has actually been not having enough staff to support the influx of inquiries we receive. We’re a small company and our main focus is quality not quantity. We want to perfect our methods, perfect our team dynamic and ensure we’re providing the best support and we feel part of that is not expanding too quickly. I think the biggest thing I’d really love the world to know about our company is that our only job is to support you and care for your sweet baby. We firmly believe that families need support in the transitional phase when bringing home and newborn and sleep deprivation is not a right of passage.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such a self proclaimed Dallas Snob so this is such an easy one for me. I love Dallas and there is so much to do!

Friday: We would start our day at Espumoso in Bishop Arts for Lattes and Empanadas and then visit the Dallas Zoo. For some reason people seem to really think the Fort Worth Zoo is better. I whole heartedly disagree. We would pet goats and feed giraffes of course- this is one thing I miss like crazy about being a nanny. The Zoo is really an all-day affair so lunch out is not an option. After freshening up, we’d end our day with Dinner at Rise which is a favorite of mine. Marshmallow Soup oh-la-la.

Saturday: I’m a huge brunch person and my favorite Dallas brunch Is Street’s Fine Chicken. The grits are to die for! After brunch, there is no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than at King Spa- soaking, relaxing, massages and Bulgogi.

Sunday: Where else does any urban Dallasite spend Sundays than at the Farmers Market. There’s dogs to pet and the best Taro milk tea Dallas has to offer. Sunday Funday isn’t complete without a follow up visit to a local park. I really enjoy Klyde Warren or Reverchon personally. I’d end the day with Dinner at CBD Provisions- the carnitas do not disappoint,

Some other super note worthy Dallas spots include: The Perot Museum, Highland Park Village- hello bird bakery! A stroll along the Katy trail, The DMA and the Botanical Gardens.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ahhhhh, where do I even begin? I have such an incredible support system. It’s not a rare occurrence that I put in 80+ hours between in-home time with our clients and back end office work and I don’t think I’d be a sane or functioning human without my wonderful, supportive husband. As a work from home dog dad he holds down the fort and manages our lives and home while I’m either working 7 nights a week or traveling the world with my clients. On the business end- my partner Chevelle is the most wonderful human I could imagine running a business with. We compliment one another so perfectly and she pushes us to be greater, support families in new + exciting ways and does the most incredible job managing our team among many, many things. Among all else, I’m truly grateful for and would be nowhere without my wonderful network of colleagues and of course the families that trust me with their newest and tiniest family members.
