We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Styers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
For me, work-life balance is a healthy blend. In addition to running my own music business, I’m also a Real Estate Agent in the Dallas area. With both businesses thriving, it’s important to maintain a clear separation between work and personal time.

When I’m home with my wife, I do my best to unplug and be present. That said, in both industries, the next call could be a client, so sometimes, I have to answer. Finding balance isn’t always easy, but setting aside time to disconnect and reset is essential.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a professional saxophonist, I’ve had the privilege of performing at a wide variety of events over the past 25 years. I started in high school, then transitioned to jam sessions with other musicians in college. From there, I began gigging with local DFW party bands, playing at clubs on weekends—gigs that eventually led to performing at wedding receptions.

After years of experience, I built my own brand and shifted my focus to solo performances, including cocktail hours and wedding ceremonies. One of the biggest challenges was getting in front of planners, booking agents, and, most importantly, brides. With so many talented musicians in the area, I knew I had to find a way to stand out.

That’s when I created “Dallas Saxophone”, a brand that’s now recognized across everything I do. Today, I’m one of the most requested and respected sax players in the industry—both for solo bookings and as a collaborator. You’ll see me advertising at Bridal Shows, Venue Open Houses, among other avenues, putting myself right in front of my target clientele.
Additionally, I’m one of a few musicians in the area who offers a Sax & DJ Duo, a high-energy option that has become a wedding reception favorite.
It’s been a pretty fun ride over the past 25 years, and I feel like I’m just getting started!

Advice for the younger musicians stepping out of college and into the market: Take the time to make connections now with bandleaders and the ones who write the checks, and put in your dues with them. Reinvest in your education and marketing yourself. Get yourself a mentor in the business as well!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really love the Bishop Arts area. The wife and I moved from East Dallas to Oak Cliff back in 2023, and we’ve been exploring more outside of our “lower greenville” bubble.
House of Blues has been one of my favorite venues to visit as well. I met my wife there in 2012 at a Willie Nelson concert, so it already holds a special place in my heart. If there’s a good show happening there, or another local venue, you bet I’m there!
Over in the Bishop Arts area, there’s a nice little Taco joint called Taco y Vino, that I recommend highly. It is what it’s called. Tacos and Wine!
Another spot we frequent is La Comida. The place is covered in Flamingos and the food is amazing! Other than that, anywhere with a patio is fine by me. When I have a friend in town, that’s where we’re going!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Trae Williams, my Mentor, and Friend in the Real Estate business. He has been a tremendous part of my personal and business journey. After spending 30 years in traditional real estate sales and flipping, he’s now sharing his years of knowledge, and advising other agents and investors on how to achieve financial freedom!
