Meet Alex And Noemi Cortez | Owners of Conexion Coffee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex And Noemi Cortez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex and Noemi, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
We’d say a coffee cart is 75 percent catering 25 percent coffee. A majority of your time is spent of the logistics of the cart like; getting to and from the event, maintenance on machines, ordering beans, or working with different vendors.
This can be quite a challenge for someone who is passionate about the coffee industry, but not so much about things like organization, scheduling, and event planning.
Overall, the coffee industry itself is complex but a joy to do!

What should our readers know about your business?
Conexion exists to connect people through caffeine. We believe that food has always been a way for people from all walks of life to connect and bond, and coffee is no exception. Prior to dating and marrying each other, Noe and I always had a love for coffee and the spaces that served it. Coffee shops, for us and many others, are safe places; places to focus and work, but also places to unwind and relax.
Noe and I began Conexion with the aspiration to one day build a place that can be what many coffeeshops have been to us. Starting a business can be, and is, hard, but like many other things in life one of the hardest things in doing anything is simply starting.
Being married to your business partner also comes with its own set of unique challenges. Your communication, patience, your ability to handle disagreements – all of these things are put up to the challenge when you begin a business with your spouse, and while some may be against it, we believe that there’s no one else is the world we’d rather do this with than with each other.
Conexion has only been in business for a few months now, but we like to say we have a big-business mentality but the heart of a small business . This means we have big ideas, but with always people in mind.
We hope to share more of our journey as we continue to grow and be molded and shaped by the people that partner with us and us with them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is an amazing place to try amazing food and coffee. For coffee, we’d start in the Design District, where we can find The Meteor or Wayward Coffee – both amazing places to sit down and try some of the best coffee in town in our opinion. We’d also check out the Dallas Contemporary!
Afterwards, a walk down the Katy Trail to get some steps in or perhaps check out some art at the DMA or the Nasher. For lunch we’d head down to Oak Cliff to go to Herby’s Burgers, grab some chocolate from CocoAndre, and maybe a second round of coffee at Slow and Steady. Afterwards, we could check out some great literature at The Wild Detectives.
If the heat is strong, and let’s be honest, when is it not, we’d head over to La Florecita found in East Dallas. Their ice cream and mangonadas are the best! If gelato is your preference then Botolino is a must.
We could go on and on but here we some other things you should do while in Dallas lightning-round style: Check out the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson, go to a Rangers game at Globe Life Field, check out the Stockyards in Fort Worth, visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, and go shopping at NorthPark!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Brady and Whitney Johnson from Landmark Coffee in Grapevine, TX. You guys are such an inspiration to us, and we are eternally grateful for all the wisdom, sound advice, and support you both have provided to us.
