We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Sedaca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandro, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Man, I tell you what! You gotta have a strong will to get into a creative career. Specially tattooing. It’s not for everyone. I was very fortunate to grow up in a creative household though. My father was a music professor at a university, so I got into music at an early age. I have been in bands all my life, but I didn’t see that as a career. Art kind of came along in my elementary years thanks to marvel comics and the Simpsons.
As I got older I experimented with street art and did my fair share of spray painting stencils on buildings. Punk rock and graffiti are, more or less, what introduced me to tattooing.
From the moment I started, I was hooked. I had an art form that was, not only awesome, but filled with tradition. I would say tattooing chose me. You know??

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Man, the honest truth is that it’s not an easy road for anyone wanting to get into tattooing. Sure, things are easier now. But I started twenty one years ago. We didn’t have social media then. There’s been a lot of struggle along the way. Even some homelessness. But for every obstacle, there have been so many more rewards. I’ve gotten to meet some incredible people. I’ve met celebrities, partied with musicians, and even been in a music video with Lil Wayne!
Everything has led to opening Monarch Tattoo in 2024. Second to marrying my best friend, it’s my greatest achievement to date.
I’ve learned that treating people well and doing good work matters. Showing people kindness is important. And keeping a positive mental attitude helps when those obstacles get especially hard.
But most importantly, I believe my faith in God has been what’s helped me overcome life’s biggest obstacles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city tend to be food related. Especially BBQ. Risky’s in the stockyards has an all you can eat ribs special that’s killer! Terry Black’s on 7th is also insanely good.
I’d say if you’re visiting Fort Worth, do some Fort Worth stuff!! Go see a rodeo, drink a lot of margaritas, hit up Billy Bob’s and do some line dancing, or go to the Basement Bar for late night drinks!
But most importantly, make a stop at Monarch Tattoo on Magnolia Avenue!! Stop by and say hello!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s hard to pick one person. Right? Because in every stage of growth there were those who helped me. And honestly, there have been so many people along the way. From my parents and my wife, to my mentors Jeremy Wood and Derek Lewis who have taught me and set the standard for tattooing, to friends and clients who still encourage me in all my artistic endeavors.
And even now, I still learn and grow because of the people around me. I couldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for the amazing people I work with every day. They give me the drive to keep going and keep growing. Because together we want to make Monarch Tattoo the best possible place for everyone in Fort Worth.
