We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Miramontes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alec, what matters most to you?
I would not be where I am today without understanding the value of perseverance. Early on I saw that working through various oppositions in life could lead you places. My parents didn’t have a lot when I was growing up, yet I would see them work tirelessly to provide for my siblings. That has always stuck with me. Learning perseverance allowed me to achieve my dream of making it into the film and video industry. When covid hit, I lost my networking job and was at a crossroads. Do I take the easy route and try to find another career in IT, or do I use this opportunity to try and achieve my goal of landing a stable career in the filmmaking business? I decided it was now or never, so I set out on my journey of doing freelance video work. With the equipment I had I took any gig I could find to pay the bills and expand my portfolio. However, trying to make ends meet while never allowing doubt to win made it easily the roughest year and a half I’ve lived through. The value of perseverance that I learned at a young age allowed me to endure the struggles that came my way, and gave me the opportunity to work as a videographer and editor on a marketing team. Since then my tenacity has allowed me to make music videos and also earn a cinematography award for a short film. I feel my career finally starting to soar.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what distinguishes myself from others is my drive and tenacity. I worked extremely hard to get to where I am today, and have never taken advantage of that fact. Pursuing my dream of being a filmmaker came with so many obstacles, but I persevered and never faltered. All my struggles helped me learn more about myself, my art, and how much I love doing what I do. I want my art to have my creative stamp on them that people can recognize as mine, and every failure I’ve endured has helped improve my artistic aesthetic. I see my creative brand come to fruition with the music videos I make as well as the flyers and visuals I design for my DJ gigs. I want people to know that the most rewarding things in life do not come easy, and that hardships can build your character and creativity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently reside in Bishop Arts, so an afternoon there would be a great place to start. Shopping and dining there is a must. Next would be hanging out at Trinity Overlook Park. I always take my friends there whenever it’s nice outside to picnic and chill. Definitely one of my favorite underrated parks in town. After that I definitely will be taking them to either Barbs Pavilion or the Grapevine Bar. I’m a sucker for a dive bar with a pool table and jukebox. I always have the best time when I’m there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents who always believed in everything I did. My mom especially has been a huge inspiration to me. I grew up seeing her work tirelessly to achieve all her career goals, and to this day has been recognized in the Dallas community for her perseverance and all the hard work that she does.
