We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Lamberty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alec, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Chicago and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Albuquerque has a VERY small electronic music scene and I like to think I was one of the first people of my generation listening to the genre out there, for reference I am 25! I remember trying to show my friends Flux Pavillion’s remix of Gold Dust, Adventure Club’s remix of Crave You, or even Zed’s Dead’s Rude Boy to my friends in 2010/2011 and they’d all look at me funny. (on second thought, people still do that today lol!) Right from the jump, I was different, but New Mexico taught me above all else, that being unique should be celebrated.
There were NO electronic music events in Albuquerque except for a few “big” shows like Foam Wonderland. Needless to say, I was completely starved as a fan of Electronic music. I always wondered what it would be like to be in a community that has electronic music at the center, or if that even existed? I knew that one day I would find it and really feel like I found my ‘home’. Fast forward to January 2021; I moved to Dallas to start my adult life and began my music career. Being involved in the scene out here in Dallas has made me so thankful for my upbringing in New Mexico. With the absence of electronic music growing up, I don’t take a single show I’m playing or attending for granted. I know that others don’t get this privilege and I make the most of it every day!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ambedo actually has a definition which is: a (melancholic) trance in which you are overcome with vivid sensory detail.
Growing up and still today, songs with the ability to completely stop my mind and transport me to new places have a special place in my heart. I love songs that make me remember my first time flying window seat on an airplane, or songs that help me paint pictures/create stories in my mind. Songs that take away the stress and anxiety of today, and let my imagination run wild. I love to live ‘inside’ the music, if that makes sense. I wanted to do that with my music as well. I like to create themes for my projects that allows the listener to take it all in and associate the songs to their own story/imagination/picture in their mind. I also try my hardest to make listening to my music a novel experience, as in I want every song to take a different form and to act a different way for every person, and for every listen to feel like the first time. I think that my music helps to tell any story, and that is what will help me get to the next level.
Since moving to Dallas in January 2021 and starting my music career, I’ve been at just about every single show to support my friend’s who are playing, or to see special acts that are right in my backyard! It’s only easy if you really love this stuff! I think that showing your face and proving you want to be involved is the first step to advancing your artist career. On the other hand, all of my free time (that isn’t going to my Girlfriend or PS5) is for my music. I am dedicated to being able to craft whatever sounds I want some day, so it’s a big investment to reach that goal, but so far it’s been completely worth it. For now, I am working on consistency and staying dedicated all the time. The harder I work, the easier it is, and the luckier I seem to get!
Everyday is a new day to learn something in this industry. Whether it’s sound design, mixing live, mastering your tracks, marketing yourself, maintaining social media presence, negotiating deals, getting booked, submitting songs to labels… It’s a LOT, you will fail a LOT, BUT it’s so fun to learn all about it so that you nail it on the next try. My biggest tip would be to just say that it’s not the end of the world, your art will be released one way or another, and don’t stress it! Keep your mental health in tip top shape and you’ll be a rockstar.
To the world, I just want people to know that I live for this music. It’s been a part of me since I was quite young and I am dedicated to being successful on my adventure. I finally have an outlet to show people new music that I love , an outlet to create something new, an outlet to let my imagination run wild, and an outlet to be who I am with my chest and be accepted. For that, I am grateful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still pretty new to Dallas so firstly I would probably ask them what they think would be fun based on their internet searches lol!
If it was ALL up to me, definitely hitting Terry Blacks or Cattleacks for some classic Texas BBQ (this is actually where I take all the visiting artists I get to meet). After that, some shopping at North Park mall or at the local businesses in Deep Ellum is always a solid choice. After that, definitely heading to a Stars, Cowboys, or Mavs game. In the downtimes we could have drinks at some distinguished bars in Dallas like Skellig or WonderBar. Then at night we would absolutely be hitting some underground shows, but for those times/ locations you’ll have to get via text 😉
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people to be thankful for and who I’d like to dedicate this to. Thank you to PRIMENIGHTCULT, Full Grind Texas, and all of my fellow artists out here in Dallas. I wouldn’t have the community, friends, mentors, fans, or support/momentum without you all.
Thank you so much for all of your support, guidance, and love.
