We had the good fortune of connecting with Aida Magaña Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aida, what do you attribute your success to?
My community!

There are many factors that influence the success of a project. In my personal experience, patience, hard work, sacrifices and courage are a few. But without hesitation, building a strong community is the key factor that has always impacted my business in the most incredible ways.

I knew having a strong community was important, but i really faced it when the pandemic hit our lives. All the incredible women that i had next to me, all those clients that became family, all of them were a key piece in the evolution of my Studio. They made the path so enjoyable while having to adapt to the virtual world. They support me or my business any time we need them.

What should our readers know about your business?
Plié Studio is the name!

I started my fitness career as a personal instructor. I used to spend hours in traffic moving from one class to another. Then, i began to work in 2 studios and people started to seek for my classes. I spend almost a year working like these, loving every single class, every single day. But I dreamed about my own studio.

I´m one of those people that, when an idea enters my head, it´s easier to cut my head off than to take off the idea, so… I made it happened. I had no money to start with, so I needed a place cheap, small and beautiful. That´s when my mom offered me a room in her house, it was a place separated from the actual house, so it was perfect. I´m very visual and crafty, so I made that space my dream space, it only took some gallons of paint, a lot of hours of hard work and some music.

I bought the weights, balls, and some other props with the money I´ve saved from the classes. Also mirrors, the sound system and everything was ready to begin. It took a lot of courage because I had to quit the other studios so I could teach in my own. It was half of my salary, i decided to stick with some private lessons so I could afford all the expenses while my studio started.

The pandemic arrived 2 months before turning 1 year anniversary. I was speechless. It had been an awesome first year of my business and now i had to stop. All the effort, all the work, all the fisical tiredness, all gone. It took me 1 month to realise that the show needed to go on. I tought, it´s only a few days, people need to work out still. So, I grabed my go pro camera, my speaker and started filming my self.

It went a year and a half, and we were still at home. Home office, home work out, home schooling… By that time, I have already closed my presential studio, cause my mom needed to rent that space. My online classes went from, a link to the class to my own web. I built the site with my own hands (and with tecnical help of my husband). I spend months, trying to understand the system, the way to program things and the way to upload classes.

And here I am now! Plié Studio is still working, in a different version, but with the same soul. The people that began with me since the begining, they are still working out with me virtually. And now im thankfull, because back then, I could only teach 12-13 people per class, because of the small space. But now I can reach anyone, I have women from different cities and countries.

I love my job so much and women had written to me saying they feel that, wich I think it´s awesome, because they actually are feeling me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The magestic Mexico City!

First, we have to take the Turibus. That red one, double decker bus, that takes you around the hole city and the must see places. Downtown, museums, stadiums, main streets, it´s all there.

Chapultepec. The one park I think you have to see and walk/bike.

If you want to eat, drink and have some fun, you need to visit colonia Roma and Condesa, 2 of the most popular suburbs in the city and the ones with the most variety of cool places.

And finally, you can´t leave the city without attending the show of “Lucha Libre”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my women and my family!

First, my mom Aida, she was the one that made it possible when i pursued the dream of my own studio.
My dad Jose Luis, the one that equipped my class room.
My sisters, Sarah and Luisa, my bigest followers, always next to me, supporting my business.
To Andrea, Ines and Olivia, my inconditionals.
And to Aaron, my love, without him and all his knowledge, this enourmous virtual success would not happened the way it happened.
