We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrianna Amos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrianna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think the main thing that I’ve learned when it comes to taking risks is this: Sometimes, you just have to be the one that’s brave enough to say “Yes”. Saying yes to opportunity, especially when you’re afraid, can open so many doors for you. Not only that, it can unlock a level of confidence in you that you may not have known was there.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My new salon, Total Hair Experience, was actually a concept I had started thinking about early last year. I had been working at a corporate salon for about 2 years and after being passed over for a promotion that I had spent almost that entire time working towards, I said to myself “Enough is enough ” and I started planning. Little did I know that I would be let go about 2 months later and I had no idea what I would do. I took some time to pause and reflect and pray, then I decided that working for myself was what I wanted to do. I was denied unemployment and loans from the bank, but I had a 401k from my last job. So, against the wishes of my financial advisor, I decided to take a bet on myself and poured everything I had into this business. Now here I am, almost a year later (the longest I’ve been in business for myself), and I am slowly but surely building the business that I’ve always dreamed of. This small suite is going to grow into the thing that will help me to retire, put my children through college, help to uplift my community and my family, and hopefully help to strengthen the next generation of hairstylists. The goal of this salon is to help mend the gap between clients and beauty industry professionals, by creating positive experiences fueled by understanding, compassion, and grace.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the course of my career, I have had so many mentors and teachers, from all different areas of my industry. But my biggest and most continuous supporters have always been my mom and dad, Hammond and Maria Burke. My mother is a warrior in her own right and has the most beautiful spirit you could ever encounter. My dad is a technical genius and one of the most hard working people I’ve ever met. Now, we haven’t always seen eye to eye and none of us are perfect, but these two people have helped mold me into the person I am, as a woman and a beauty professional, and I could never be more grateful to them.
