We had the good fortune of connecting with Ada Onuoha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ada, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Originally, I was interested in becoming a politician, but quickly realized that I would be able to make a greater impact in the entertainment industry. Being born into a musically gifted family, I was naturally influenced to be artistically inclined. I particpated in dance, choir, modeling, musical theatre, and my mother made music as well.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The biggest thing that sets my team apart from others is that we are an all woman’s company. This comes with an innumerable amount of challenges such as gaining respect in a male-dominated industry, as this was and still is the main issue we run into. However, due to our determination and fearless attitudes, we are able to overcome the constant misogyny and acquire respect from the same individuals that doubted us initially.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Believe it or not my favorite spot in the city is my home. Due to being in the entertainment industry, going to parties, clubs, or out in general is my job and can be tedious. However, I do enjoy eating out occasionally at places like Ocean’s Prime, Kiss, or RH Rooftop, but a home cooked meal will always get the job done. My favorite cuisine is obviously Nigerian, such as ogbono soup and eba.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to give a shoutout to God, because without him I would not be in the position I am in today. Secondly, my mother and brother for the continuous support regardless of them not understanding the vision at first. My mom prayed for my safety, well being, and success daily. Lastly, my best friends, Feli and Marri, for supporting my business by being the first and only members on the team for the first six months. Although many say to be weary of mixing business with friendships, this experience has made our relationship much stronger.
