Meet Ada Crenshaw | Entrepreneur & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ada Crenshaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ada, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
On February 19, 2021, at 1:30 pm, my manager told me that my services were no longer needed and essential to the company. I remember it so vividly because it was the week of the snowstorm, and I just got power back on at my house, plus it was Black History Month. When I heard those words, I was shocked, but not really.
Monday morning (02/22/21) at 7:35 am, I had a moment of clarity. I woke up with a sense of purpose and fire inside of me. I knew for sure that I was not going back to corporate America. So, I decided I was going to start my own business. I started building the foundation (blueprint) for my first business, Nfinite Legacy Mobile Notary. I planned to have everything in place, including healthcare, complete by my last day in corporate America, and I did. Sixty days later, on April 23, 2021, I was debriefed and walked off the corporate plantation. I was free!! No longer did I need to code-switch every day and be underappreciated.
A year later, we are growing strong and have added a new service, Wedding Officiant services. I enjoy meeting new people all the time and creating new business relationships. The company has been able to volunteer at more local events with different organizations.
I also decided to add another income stream to my expanding portfolio. I became an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. I became a Mary Beauty Consultant because I love all things makeup, healthy skin, and uplifting people to become the best version of themselves. My mission is to help everyone feel and be comfortable in the beautiful skin God gave them. I work with nonprofits to teach young teens about self-care and self-confidence.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Family, going to college, and graduate school played a huge part in my life. Education provided the foundation I needed to get my first corporate job and later jobs. But in 2021, I was laid off.
During my time in corporate America, I went through racism and misogyny, and it didn’t sit well with my soul. A few times, I was passed over for promotions; my manager consistently told me what I was doing wrong [according to him]. He rarely told me I did any task well. He was very intimidated by me. I trained him and the managers before him. Senior management didn’t think there was anything wrong with the toxic environment they created. So what if most of the minority employees were leaving. They knew they would just hire more, mistreat them, and not give them challenging assignments, and the cycle continued.
A few years before being laid off, I decided to go back to school to get my master’s degree. As I was studying throughout my course, I set a goal to become an entrepreneur after completing my degree. The things I was learning and the people I interacted with opened my eyes to new experiences and technologies. I graduated with a new mindset and more confidence to know I could run my own business.
In 2020, I renewed my journey of getting closer to God and learning to live in peace. I had been praying for God to take me out of the situation and change the people around me. Then it hit me, what is God trying to teach me? God was leaving me in that situation to teach me a lesson. I learned to remain calm in all conditions, do what I was assigned, and mind my business. That started my journey to get closer to God. Once I started working on myself, things around me began to change.
Overcoming the challenges wasn’t as hard as I thought once I decided to stop being in control and let God take over. I didn’t like how I was being treated at work, and I wanted to change my situation. So, I went to graduate school to enhance my knowledge and education. Once I accomplished that goal, I felt free to explore my options. Little did I know God would take me out of that job situation and put me in a place to start building my legacy and creating wealth for myself and my family.
The lessons I learned along the way:
1. God did not put me on this Earth for everyone to like or support me. When I quit focusing on unimportant things, my journey has been exciting and less stressful. The only thing that’s important to me is using all the talents and gifts God has given me to further His Kingdom, and at the end, I stand before Him, and He says, “Job well done.”.
2. I learned to put myself first and not feel ashamed about it. My cup must be full so that I can continue to take care of my mom and pour into others in need. I take time out to recharge. I say no to the things I don’t want to do and don’t give an additional explanation. “No.” is enough.
3. I include God in all my plans and constantly ask for guidance. He always gives me an answer.
4. Don’t take everything personally. Rejection is part of life. Taking an “L” is not as complicated as people make it out to be. When I hear a no, I just keep moving on. I know my services are not for everyone, and I respect that.
5. Writing in my gratitude journal makes me happy.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
When you see my brand, think of excellence. I put my all into starting and growing my businesses. Don’t give up on your dreams. Do what makes you happy, and always give back.
