We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Sidauruk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business is always fun but challenging. It’s adding another layer of my busy life. You have to be everything. You have to be the designer, the accountant (lucky me, because I have help from my man), sourcing person, packaging designer, customer service reps, pretty much all the hats you can wear. However, once you see how happy those people who purchase and receive your products, it just melts all the challenges and leaves me with happy warm hug feelings.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My design is very much talking about the life itself. Sometimes it’s complicated, sometimes it’s super simple depending on how you see it or how I see it. What I’m most proud of is I can make a living by just breathing because to me designing/creating art is like breathing. I cannot live without it. I have to draw something every hour or I will be crabby. To get paid to do your everyday ‘routine’ is awesome! How did I get here? Great question. I had to climb rocks and mountains and fell from a jetplane. I had to work extra hard. I still remember when I had an art blog on blogspot and a handful of strangers just trolling all my stuff. Honestly, I am very grateful for it because it hurt, but it didn’t stop me from drawing and improving. The majority of my products are stickers because I want people to have fun. It’s okay to stick something colorful on your bare boring laptop. My artwork is made to make all your favorite stuff even more YOU.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My fav will be Bishop art district. I just love checking out all the small shops. I usually go to dallas grilled cheese.co for lunch.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First.. God! without these talents and gifts.. I wouldn’t be able to live my life in such a colorful way. The kindest and most supportive human in the world AKA my love, PEPEP. Cindy Shaw.. my partner in design crime – who has never stopped encouraging me and teaching me about running a small business. Also, she’s my misspelling police. Jenna Dwyer.. she’s my brainstorming partner and my almighty proofreader. Last but not least.. all the creative people who run small businesses that I have been stalking night and day.. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Cannot have done this without y’all.
