We had the good fortune of connecting with Aahana M and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aahana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I am with hetalnagarj from age of 4 straight. The most important factor behind my success or bringing me on front face of recognition is only because of my small wins at grace and grooves with just once a week class in various programs and some workshops as I could take them.
Though small but powerful and mighty. something that cannot be overlooked and it outshines my entire portfolio. I did so much with just once a week class and workshops.
Each of my wins, awards and culture contributions or nominations have added high value to my existing portfolio.
company’s straight background, transparency, traceability and my teachers/guru’s industry experience has made a huge difference in every decision making of each submission or for pretty much anything.
Application of my performing arts knowledge and submissions and how to use it, where to use it made a huge difference since most of my awards were focused to fundamentals, creativity, presentation of performing arts. It was important to avoid unnecessary distractions for performances in various shows and instead focus to yourself.
I think collectively all the decision making of various aspects under the guidance of hetal nagaraj and my mom as well made a huge difference. It was about utilizing all the right elements of performing arts with amazing real industry experience that worked together to make my time and efforts valuable. Little I knew, I did so much with just once a week class.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I call myself an artist . I dance and I sing and basically love to perform. I also paint and have been painting since I was a child it was my way to unwind from any stress.
Thanks to extensive experience of my teacher Ms Hetal Nagaraj I tried many genres of dance from Folk dances, Bollywood, Hiphop to Kalari.
I enjoyed Kalapayattu (Indian Martial Arts) the most . It’s an empowering martial arts based dance and make me feel powerful and beautiful from inside. Under Ms. Hetal’s guidance I have performed over 30 performances in DFW, Texas.
I have also received several awards and nominations for my performances in competitions as well as various other culture/community awards. I am very proud to achieve all this with just once a week class or workshops under Hetal Nagaraj.
I also sing and thanks my family genetics and my dad for early voice lessons . I am under a training in western pop and had over 20 performances at different city festivals , restaurants and stage performance venues.
What I am most proud about is not giving up and overcoming fear of being in front of people with all of myself.
When I was 7 I developed a skin condition called vitiligo that left scary looking white patches on my body primarily leg and face. While I felt devastated initially and feared bullying for looking different.
My dance and singing gave me the mental strength to overcome all my fears.
When I hear people applaud I know that they are appreciating you for your effort and your skill and commitment to your passion and are not judging you on looks.
It took me a while to get and feel better but I came out of it more confident about myself and my trainings and my art.
Todays the spots and patches have receded and I have some on my leg but I will not let that bother me because I believe I am
much more than my looks. Dance and Singing success has changed my life making me extremely confident and to value myself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas is a food lovers paradise . From Indian biryani to chaat to Tex mex Tacos to amazing Asian Ramen and hotpot’s we have it all so definitely a lot of restaurant hopping. For most year we have great weather so I would include some hikes like Cedarridge Preserve, white rock Trail on two different days . Top golf in colony and main event in Frisco for indoor fun.
Stroll , shop and eat at Legacy West.
Visit fort worth stockyards , Dallas arboretum , Perot mueseum , Klydewarren Park , and Stroll Grandscape and see the city from Ferris wheel.
It would be a fun week of sightseeing, great food and wind up with indoor entertainment
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hi my name is Aahana. I have been a performer since age 4.
First thanks goes to my Mom for acting on her love for dance and taking me to my first classes at Grace and Grooves.
When I met my guru/teacher Hetal Nagaraj a whole world of dance opened up.
I was blown away by the variety of dances that our rich Indian culture can boast of and I feel grateful I met the only person ( probably in whole city ) that has aunthentic knowledge of these dance forms.
So my inspiration is My teacher Hetal Nagaraj and also elites such as Nirja Setty. She’s is few years older than me so I was inspired to be like her and dance like her . Today she’s a friend , colleague and teacher .
